Role Description The Child and Youth Care Worker – Rural Alberta is a full-time, on-site role based in Stony Plain, AB and Barrhead, AB. This role involves supervising parent-child visits, ensuring safety, and facilitating positive, age-appropriate interactions in accordance with agency protocols. The worker documents observations and incidents, prepares clear visit reports, and communicates relevant information to supervisors and partnering agencies. Day-to-day tasks include supporting children’s emotional needs,



modeling healthy communication, and guiding parents on strategies that promote consistent and meaningful contact. The role also involves collaborating with community services, participating in team meetings, receiving ongoing training, and assisting with program activities that strengthen family resilience and connection.

Qualifications

- Experience in childcare and working with children in structured, trauma-informed or supervised settings.
- Background in social services, child and youth care, social work, or related human services fields.
- Skills in training, coaching, or supporting parents and caregivers to apply positive interaction strategies.
- Ability to assist with event planning and coordination of child- and family-focused activities or programs.
- Strong observation, documentation, and report-writing skills with attention to detail and confidentiality.
- Excellent communication, de-escalation, and conflict-resolution abilities, with a calm, respectful approach.
- Knowledge of child development, family dynamics, and trauma-informed practice is an asset.
- Relevant diploma or degree in Child and Youth Care, Social Work, Psychology, or a related field preferred.
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation for rural and community-based work is considered an advantage.
