What you’ll do
- Manage a wide variety of survey project types and sizes to support engineering, construction and land tenure management at BC Hydro.
- Work with internal clients to define survey scope and budget, and deliver survey services and products via our internal survey team and external survey consultants.
- Supervise/mentor internal field and office personnel to deliver legal and engineering survey products.
- Act as BC Hydro Representative on contracts for survey services being delivered on behalf of BC Hydro by external survey contractors across the province.
- Work closely with the BC Hydro properties management group to ensure BC Hydro interests are properly secured/maintained.
- Act in an advisory role on BC Hydro projects with regards to Geodesy, spatial data management/quality, land tenure, Legal/Engineering surveys, contract management etc.
- Manage/monitor quality control processes to ensure all products meet BC Hydro and survey industry standards.
- Maintain productive relationships with a variety of government agencies (LTSA, NRCAN, MOTI, Municipalities, etc.).
What you bring
- Minimum of 8 years as a British Columbia Land Surveyor in good standing with the Association of British Columbia Land Surveyors. Will consider candidates with lesser qualifications for a lower category position such those with less than 8 years as BCLS or candidates who are registered as land surveyor in training with ABCLS. Similar qualifications may also be considered such as commissioned as a Canada Land Surveyor.
- Must be an excellent communicator (written and verbal) and be able to explain complex survey principles to internal clients and co-workers of all knowledge levels.
- A commission as a Canada Lands Surveyor or good knowledge of surveys on Canada Lands is an asset.
- A Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Geomatics Engineering is an asset.
- Designation as a P.Eng (Geomatics) is an asset.
- A condition of this role is that you have and maintain your BC Class 5 Driver's License Type.

What else you should know
- Good knowledge of BC Hydro’s Distribution GIS functionality available in DAD.
- Good electrical knowledge of BC Hydro’s distribution system and all its components tracking circuits and solving conflicts.
- Knowledge to update Operate drawings: Distribution Operate Diagrams (DOD), Underground Distribution Diagram, (UDD), POCC, and ODCR etc.
- Knowledgeable on how circuit works, how to interpret PA and look up on electrical information in DAD to update and provide a drafts review and approve.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills will be essential to ensure clear communication and collaboration with the Engineering Standards team.
- Drafter must be able to work within a multi-discipline team environment with changing priorities.
- Works in a normal office environment.
