4 days ago Requisition ID: 1647Salary Range: $70,927.00 To $97,526.00 AnnuallyCommunity Social Worker (Temporary, Full-Time) (1-Year)JOB SUMMARYWith an emphasis on prevention and early intervention, the Community Social Worker utilizes a case management approach to provide strengths-based, healing-centered wraparound supports to facilitate improved social functioning, wellbeing, resilience and among Tsleil-Waututh individuals and families. The Community Social Worker works in a collaborative team workplace under the direction of the Children, Youth and Family Services (CYFS) Manager.Tsleil-Waututh Nation is in the process of re-asserting legal jurisdiction over the care of their children, youth and families. The incumbent must be committed to decolonizing social work, play a key role in supporting the transition and be part of these efforts towards reconciliation.ESSENTIAL DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES1) Build strong relationships Tsleil-Waututh community members to gain trust and understanding of their barriers, needs and strengths, in order to provide prevention and early intervention supports2) Provide intake, case planning, and intervention for individuals and families at risk or experiencing social difficulties, working collaboratively with extended family and other care providers3) Be TWN's primary liaison with the Ministry of Children and Family Development and Indigenous Child and Family Service (ICFS) Agencies and advocate for community members and families4) Conduct psychosocial assessments, provide brief solution-based therapy, mediation and other interventions as required5) Provide and coordinate referrals to community resources (ie. counselling, treatment centres, BC Housing), including on-reserve and off-reserve supports6) Coordinate and lead case management meetings, involving staff and external agencies as appropriate, to provide wraparound supports for individuals and families7) Investigate, and take protective action when required in cases of child abuse and/or neglect, both alongside the Ministry of Children and Family Development’s process and based on Tsleil-Waututh’s own risk assessment8)



Act as an advocate for clients and perform court-related services as required, this may include travelling to support off-reserve members9) Maintain accurate and detailed case notes and records of each visit, conversation and any other form of communication10) Maintain good working relationships with internal and external partners, including the Integrated First Nations Unit11) Assist with policy and procedural document writing and development, as directed by supervisor12) Attend scheduled department staff meetings and in-service programs13) Complete and maintain all documentation/ records and reporting as required14) Develop and follow approved annual work plan.15) Follow policies and procedures around privacy and confidentialityPerform other related duties as required.WORKING CONDITIONSPhysical DemandsManual dexterity required to operate computer and peripherals.Intermittent physical activity including walking, standing, sitting, lifting and supporting clients.Mental FocusStress may be caused by the need to complete tasks within tight deadlines.May deal with individuals who can, from time to time, be demanding and challenging. Must be able to remain patient and calm, and will have to engage in conflict resolution or crisis management at times.Environmental ConditionsOffice environment, generally quiet but at times noise can elevate.Interacts with membership, employees, management and the general public.Overtime may be required.Travel may be required.QUALIFICATIONSBachelor of Social Work (BSW) from a recognized post-secondary institution, or related discipline; Valid Social Work designation, license or registration, as required by the province.Three years of related experience, combination of formal and informal education,



work experience, lived experience, and cultural knowledge/skills will be considered.Previous experience working in a First Nations community and/or organization.SKILLS, ABILITIES & KNOWLEDGEAbility to develop rapport and work with individuals and families in a respectful and strength-based way, and to incorporate cultural practices, values and beliefsDisplays and role models social-emotional competencies of self-awareness, empathy, flexibility, relationship-building and responsible decision-makingUnderstand the dynamics related to working with First Nations individuals and families who have experienced or witnessed abuse, addiction, violence, or inter-generational traumaDemonstrated understanding of the impact of residential schools, the 60's scoop, and the overall impact of colonization on First Nations communitiesKnowledge of Tsleil-Waututh Nation community and Coast Salish traditional laws and culture an assetKnowledge of Tsleil-Waututh, Coast Salish or other First Nations healing practices an assetExcellent verbal, written, facilitation and organizational skills.Must be highly resourceful; display innovative thinking and creativity; meet challenges with a positive attitude and team approach.Understanding of crisis management and the ability to deal with life threatening situations including the prevention of suicide.Ability to work collaboratively with clients, professionals, members of the community and multi-professional groupsDemonstrated conflict resolution skillsProficient with computers and Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Power Point, Outlook).Tact, sound judgment and ability to manage stress.Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality in all interactions.Willing to participate in job-related workshops, courses or training to further skills, knowledge and competencies as required.Must have a valid Class 5 B.C.
