Responsibilities

Primary purpose:

- As the asset owner, apply professional engineering expertise to the assets and systems in the designated discipline and support the safe, reliable and efficient rail transportation service delivery within an integrated, multi-jurisdictional workplace.
- Participate in the development and refinement of asset engineering, management and maintenance strategy. Support the development and implementation of the Annual Maintenance Plan, Asset Renewal Plan, Asset Improvement Plan and capital replacement plans.
- Participate in the development and refinement of engineering standards, policies and procedures for asset maintenance and projects to ensure alignment with regulations, codes and industry best practices.
- Provide innovative, professional engineering advice and guidance to engineering, asset management, asset maintenance and capital projects on quality assurance, compliance assurance and asset performance. Identify asset problems and provide technical solutions. Support investigation of significant failures,



conduct root cause analysis and present reports/recommendations to senior or principal engineers. Assist in the development of FMEA and FMECA where required. Ensure effective communication to all stakeholders.
- Provide engineering support to capital and non‑capital projects of moderate to high risk and complexity. Review and make recommendations on the approval of technical specifications, drawings and documentation regarding assigned projects.
- Participate in the development and refinement of configuration control procedures for asset maintenance. Recommend changes on asset configuration control documentation.
- Participate in selecting appropriate techniques, procedures and methods to undertake engineering assignments. Investigate and review industry best practice in rail operations and asset maintenance and recommend changes to BCRTC practice. Investigate and review existing and emerging technology and recommend application to the SkyTrain systems as appropriate. Support business case development and the implementation of best practice and new technology.
- Develop and maintain professional and trustworthy working relationships with stakeholders in BCRTC and across the enterprise.
- Supervise reporting staff, including all people practices such as hiring, training and development, coaching, monitoring and performance management.

Qualifications

- Eligibility for registration with Engineers and Geoscientists British Columbia (EGBC) as a Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) or Professional Licensee (P.L.Eng.) is required. Registration as an Engineer in Training (EIT) may be considered.
- 2 to 5 years of relevant engineering experience.
- Experience within a transit environment, specifically in Rolling Stock or Rail Infrastructure, is highly desirable.

- Solid knowledge of the principles, theories, and practices of the designated engineering discipline.
- Solid knowledge of relevant standards, legislation, acts and regulatory requirements pertaining to the rail industry.
- Working knowledge of railway operation and maintenance practices, including configuration control.
- Advanced analytical thinking and problem‑solving skills, to resolve critical and high‑impact technical issues.
- Advanced skill in creating technical reports, standards, procedures, specifications, method statements, risk assessments, FMECA, schematic and or technical drawings.
- Solid knowledge of the principles, theories, concepts and practices of project management and project reporting.
- Solid time management skills to balance and coordinate effort across multiple, concurrent activities.
- Solid communication skills and interpersonal skills to build and maintain relationships with multiple internal and external stakeholders, with the ability to achieve consensus between groups.

Work Schedule

37.5 hours per week.

Work Designation

Resident – this position works predominately on‑site.

Rate of Pay

The salary for this position ranges from $91,840 to $137,760 per annum. Actual salary offered will be based on education, experience, skills and qualifications as they relate to the role. The total compensation package, which includes extended health, dental, transit pass and enrollment in the Public Service Pension Plan as well as other employment offerings, will be discussed in detail as the application progresses.
