Position Details Job Number: JR01327Department: Plant Operations CharltonPossible sites: Charlton Campus, Charlton Campus (Hamilton Downtown)Schedule: Monday to Friday, 08:00 AM to 04:30 PM (7.5 hours)Job Type: Regular, Full timeContract Duration: 0 monthsNumber of Positions: 1Union: CUPE Local 786Hourly Rate: $35.93 - $37.29 Qualifications Must have a valid Province of Ontario Certificate of Qualification as a Second Class Stationary Engineer Knowledge of automated and computer processes (e.G., building management and pneumatic tube handling systems) Ability to assess mechanical malfunctions and enact solutions independently 36 months experience in steam plants of various sizes, with at least 24 months in a plant rated no lower than the SJHH Charlton plant at the time of hiring Ability to troubleshoot malfunctions as needed Precise movement required in operating pumps, gauges, boilers, heating units, hand tools, refrigeration and ventilation equipment, plumbing fixtures, steam-distribution systems, computerized building automation systems and other hospital equipment Good work performance and attendance record are essential Responsibilities Operate and maintain equipment in the Steam Plant and fan rooms (boilers, compressors, pumps, refrigeration and air conditioning equipment, auxiliary diesel electrical power unit and supply system, and exhaust fans throughout the hospital complex)



Monitor and maintain the pneumatic tube system, notifying appropriate service personnel on off‑shifts Assume responsibility for the operation of the Power Plant in the absence of the Manager Ensure the safe, productive and economical operation of all equipment in the Steam Plant during shift in accordance with the regulations of the Operating Engineers Act Perform necessary tests and chemical treatment of boiler feedwater, heating water, chilled water, condenser water and soft water Adhere to all safety regulations and maintain a good preventative maintenance schedule Perform related duties to ensure the cleanliness and general upkeep of specific equipment as assigned Maintain inventory, including ordering supplies and arranging for service contracts Other duties and assignments as delegated by the Manager St. Joseph’s Healthcare Hamilton (SJHH) is an equal opportunity employer and strives for equity, inclusiveness and diversity in all its programs, practices, facilities and people.
