Position Summary
We are seeking a Service Technician to support an advanced automated warehouse in Canada. The role focuses on preventive maintenance and troubleshooting of material handling systems, ensuring efficient operation and safety.
Essential Functions (Job Duties and Responsibilities)
- Provide troubleshooting support for non-routine problems in the material handling system.
- Solve complex errors in an ACP (Auto Case Picking) system.
- Maintain and troubleshoot mechanical components such as motors, motor-gearbox assemblies, rollers, bearings, shafts, and sprockets.
- Maintain and troubleshoot electrical control components such as photo eyes, motor starters, relays, limit switches, proximity sensors, solenoids, encoders, and variable frequency drives.
- Communicate with various parties on work performed and present status of specialty systems.
- Interpret engineering drawings in relation to layout, location, and operation of the system.
- Execute preventive maintenance (both electrical and mechanical).
- Report executed maintenance activities.
- Analyze system errors.
- Replace machine spare parts.
- Report problems and maintenance activities that require attention.
- Attend to call outs, faults, alarms, and warnings and monitor system from the Control Room.
- Comply with all Vanderlande programs, policies, and procedures.
- Perform other duties/assignments that may be occasionally required by management.
Required Education and Experience
- Electrician license: Industrial Electrician Trade Certification, Certified Construction/Maintenance Electrician, or Red Seal Industrial Millwright License.
- Experience supporting automated systems with proficient electro‑mechanical skills.
- Electrical fault‑finding and fault‑rectification skills,
including replacement and configuration of field devices (inverters, sensors, scanners, etc.).
- Mechanical fault‑finding and fault‑rectification skills (gearboxes, bearings, sprockets, drives, etc.).
- Experience with electrical schematics and wiring diagrams.
- Skilled in the use of standard electrical test instruments.
- Relevant vocational and/or technical qualifications.
Other Requirements
- Valid driver license.
Preferred Qualifications
- Warehouse operations experience.
- Conveyor services or material handling services experience.
Knowledge‑Skills‑Abilities (Competencies)
- Working knowledge of mechanical and electrical (motors, electrical circuits, SICK ATR systems, and other material handling equipment) and controls (Siemens) systems.
- Ability to read diagrams, electrical drawings, operation manuals, and manufacturer specifications.
- Knowledge of hand tools, precision measuring, and testing instruments.
- Flexibility with time, able to shift priorities quickly based on staff and system needs.
- Team player with strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Customer and service oriented.
- Working knowledge of computers and equipment.
- Ability to solve problems under pressure.
- Pro‑active attitude toward process improvement.
- Ability to work in a stressful environment.
Position Type & Expected Hours of Work
Full‑time position; 24/7 operation. This is a rotating shift role that includes both days and nights.
Travel
This position requires no travel.
Supervisory Responsibility
This position has no supervisory responsibilities.
Physical Demands
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to communicate information. Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. The employee frequently (25% to 75%) is required to climb, reach, sit, and access confined spaces that require kneeling, crawling, and other positions that require physical maneuvering. The employee is constantly (75% or more) required to move and lift objects (stacks of totes/trays, tools, equipment, parts, etc.) up to 50 lbs. The employee is occasionally (up to 25% of the time) required to carry and transfer up to between 50 and 120 lbs.
Work Environment
The work workplace is representative of tasks performed in the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties, the employee is regularly required to sit, use hands to handle or feel and talk or hear. The employee frequently reaches with hands and arms, occasionally stands; walks; stoops; kneels; crouches; or crawls. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 25 lbs and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 lbs. Noise levels can be loud. The Service Technician encounters mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic equipment. Ear protection should be worn.
Salary Range
This full‑time, nonexempt position is eligible for a base salary and participation in an annual performance bonus program. Salary range: CAD$80,000 to CAD$90,000. Final salary will be determined based on factors including candidate’s skills and experience.
