Supported by Fairstone Bank and Ontario Teachers Pension Plan, Fig blends extensive lending experience with the agility of a start‐up, meeting the credit needs of Canadians from various financial backgrounds.The RoleAs a Software Engineering Manager / Team Lead at Fig, you will be a player‐coach — spending roughly half your time writing production code and half your time leading a small, high‐impact team.You will be responsible for a single product team and own the entire product surface area, including:Customer‐facing frontend applicationsBackend services and public APIs for B2B partnersInternal admin and operational toolingYou will manage a team of four engineers (2 senior, 1 mid‐level, 1 junior), report directly to the VP of Engineering, and take full ownership of people management, technical execution, and delivery outcomes.Your ResponsibilitiesTechnical Leadership & DeliveryWrite production code across the stack and remain hands‐on with day‐to‐day developmentOwn technical design and help shape architecture decisions across frontend, backend, and internal toolsReview pull requests, uphold engineering standards, and bring consistency to codebases and systemsTake features from inception through deployment and operation in productionTeam Leadership & People ManagementManage, mentor, and support a team of four engineers with varying levels of experienceSet explicit expectations, provide regular feedback, and support individual growth and developmentHire engineers to backfill roles and support future team growthFoster a high‐trust,
high‐ownership team culture focused on quality and accountabilityExecution & OwnershipOwn roadmap execution for the team and ensure work is delivered reliably and with disciplineWork closely with product and stakeholders to clarify requirements and drive alignmentIdentify risks early, unblock the team, and ensure follow‐through on commitmentsTake full ownership of outcomes — not just implementationWhat You'll Need6+ years of professional software engineering experience, with some experience leading or mentoring other engineersExperience building and designing scalable backend systemsExperience working with SQL databasesExperience with backend programming languages (e.G. Python, Ruby, Node)Experience working with modern frontend JavaScript frameworks (e.G. React, Vue)Comfort operating across the full software development lifecycle — design, development, testing, and productionStrong communication skills and the ability to hold yourself and others to high standardsEnglish proficiency/fluency (written and spoken)Note: Interviews will be conducted in English.What'd Be Nice To HaveExperience working on financial products or in regulated environmentsExperience with Django and/or ReactExperience working in an early‐stage companyExposure to Salesforce customization (work owned by an offshore team, but familiarity is a bonus)Why FigCash compensation made up of 1) competitive base salary ($160K - $180K) 2)
