Support Deaf and Hard of Hearing students as a Supply Interpreter with the District School Board of Niagara. Providing American Sign Language interpretation services, enhance communication and educational experiences in schools.
The DSBN invites applications for a Supply Interpreter position. You will play a vital role in facilitating communication between students, parents, and educational staff. Key responsibilities include participating in IEP development and interpreting for various school activities, demonstrating flexibility and professionalism in diverse settings.
Key Responsibilities:
• Interpret in classrooms and assemblies for students
• Facilitate communication for Deaf parents with staff
• Prepare for classroom interpreting by studying vocabulary
• Contribute to educational team meetings and IEP reviews
• Provide insights on communication strategies
Requirements:
• Graduated or enrolled in an interpreter training program
• Active membership in interpreting associations
• Fluency in English and American Sign Language
• Familiarity with the AVLIC Code of Ethics
• Understanding of Deaf culture
