Casual Utility Worker opportunities are available working out of Cowichan Lake Recreation in the West Cowichan section of the Facilities Division at the Cowichan Valley Regional District. Reporting to the Manager – Facility Operations (West Cowichan) and supervised by the Building Maintenance Ice Maker II, the Utility Worker performs duties of a skilled and semi‑skilled nature relating to various facility maintenance and cleanliness routines, including ice maintenance, plumbing, painting, flooring, refrigeration, electrical, carpentry, mechanical, welding, etc
Qualifications
Secondary School graduation or the equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
One (1) year of experience performing recreational facility maintenance, or the equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
WHMIS certification – provided by the employer
Basic First Aid Certificate
Valid Class 5 BC Driver’s License
Basic Safety Awareness Certificate
Hours of Work
This casual, on‑call chance has no guaranteed hours of work. Hours of work are based on operational need and may include days & evenings on weekdays & weekends. Successful applicants must be available to work a versatile variety of hours and shifts.
Salary
This position is unionized (USW Local 1-1937) and the Step 1 wage rate is $33.17 per hour and Step 2 wage rate is $35.40 per hour (2026 wage rates), plus an additional 14.5% pay in lieu of vacation, perks and statutory holidays.
