Reporting to the Director, Major Pursuits (Calgary), the Mechanical Engineer will use their engineering and design experience to support the Major Pursuits Team in various activities including HVAC, plumbing and BAS system design and collaboration with external consultants, owners and trades. The role involves managing conflicting priorities and supporting other business units within Canem. It is preferred that the position be based out of Calgary, Alberta, though other Canem office locations will be considered.

What You Will Be Working On

- Review and understand project technical requirements and applicable regulatory requirements
- Develop detailed design schedules that are coordinated with the overall project schedule
- Collaborate with consultant and contractor teams
- Use engineering experience to develop BOMs for all HVAC, plumbing, and BAS systems
- Coordinate with vendors and other parties and provide information in a timely manner to avoid delay with the design process
- Work with Business Development staff to construct and maintain relationships with clients, design consultants, and other stakeholders
- Provide value engineering reviews and ensure design policies and procedures are followed
- Identify project and construction risks
- Produce schematic level analysis of the mechanical systems
- Work with consultants to develop a lean compliant design for mechanical systems
- Work with suppliers to source cost-effective solutions
- Support estimator with material take-offs
- Attend collaborative design meetings with Project teams




- Contribute to the continuous improvement of Canem’s pursuit process maps and risk management tools
- Monitor the compliance and contractual obligations and identify risks
- Monitor ongoing design efforts to ensure compliance and cost-effective design
- Contribute to the development of the BIM Execution Plan
- Audit the design documents against the requirements, ensuring they are compliant and meet industry quality standards
- Provide support to the Construction team as required

What We Are Looking For

- Minimum five years experience in mechanical construction projects
- Minimum three years experience working as a mechanical designer on Design-Build or other collaborative type projects
- Experience on HCF projects is an asset
- Degree in Mechanical Engineering
- Current knowledge of mechanical, building and municipal codes and regulations
- Excellent knowledge of industry products, practices and standards
- Ability to learn quickly, be flexible and adaptable
- Strong organizational abilities and demonstrated attention to detail
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Strong time management skills, specifically the ability to multi-task and re-prioritize
- Ability to obtain PSPC Secret level clearance is considered an asset
