Automation & Control Manager
Location: Montreal, QC
Responsibilities
- Lead, coach and develop a team of five automation technicians to ensure a high level of performance and technical expertise.
- Define the team's priorities based on the plant's operational needs, projects and strategic objectives.
- Serve as the lead automation expert for all of the plant's control and automation systems.
- Actively participate in equipment programming, troubleshooting and start‑up when required.
- Ensure the reliability, availability and performance of automated systems to minimize production downtime.
- Develop and implement the plant’s automation strategy and roadmap.
- Identify and implement continuous improvement projects aimed at increasing productivity, quality and operational efficiency.
- Manage equipment automation and modernization projects, including planning and execution.
- Establish and maintain automation technical standards, procedures, documentation and best practices.
- Work closely with the operations, maintenance, engineering, quality and health & safety teams to achieve the plant's objectives.
- Ensure compliance with applicable machine safety standards, regulatory requirements and corporate standards.
- Supervise suppliers, integrators and external contractors involved in automation projects.
- Analyze operational data and the root causes of problems to identify and implement sustainable solutions.
- Develop the team's technical skills and ensure knowledge transfer and succession planning.
- Assess,
recommend and implement new automation technologies to improve the plant's competitiveness and performance.
Qualifications
- 4-7 years of experience in industrial automation.
- Diploma or attestation of collegial studies (DEC or AEC) in a field related to instrumentation and automation.
- Experience in troubleshooting and programming Allen‑Bradley PLCs and human‑machine interfaces (Control Logix).
- Good knowledge of network protocols such as DH+, Ethernet, fibre optics, etc.
- Good knowledge of AC and DC drives.
- Knowledge in SQL programming.
- Knowledge in vb.net and Vba programming.
- Functional bilingualism (French/English).
- Experience using MS Office tools.
- A university degree is an asset.
Compensation & Advantages
Salary: CAD $95,300.00 - $120,450.00 annually. Bonus based on performance and eligibility.
