EMC / EMI Lab Test Specialist (Levels 1, 2, & 3 – Multiple Openings)

About the Role
Are you an EMC/EMI Testing professional looking to work with cutting-edge aerospace and defense technologies? ESL Labs is growing, and we are looking for talented Lab Test Specialists at Levels 1, 2, and 3 to join our high-performing Design & Test team.
In this role, you will work alongside experienced engineers to execute crucial electromagnetic testing programs, operate state-of-the-art laboratory equipment, and support mission-critical defense and aerospace projects.
What You’ll Do (Scaled by Experience)
- Testing & Execution: Conduct and lead EMC/EMI test programs according to major military and aerospace standards including MIL-STD-461, RTCA DO-160, and UK DEF-STAN 59-411.
- Equipment & Chambers: Set up, calibrate, troubleshoot, and operate sophisticated RF equipment, anechoic/reverberation chambers, spectrum analyzers, EMI receivers, signal generators, power amplifiers, and antennas.
- Data & Analysis: Document, analyze, and interpret complex test data; identify anomalies; and generate comprehensive technical reports.
- Lab Operations & Quality: Execute preventive maintenance, update asset trackers, and assist with lab automation.
- Develop or aid in the development of Standard Operting Procedures (SOP), and Qualification Test Procedures/Reports.
- Leadership & Mentorship (Levels 2 & 3): Provide technical guidance to junior specialists, review test records, validate SOPs, and collaborate directly with design engineers and defense clients.
Education & Experience
- Level 1:
Diploma in Electrical Engineering Technology, Electronics, or a related field (or equivalent). Basic understanding of electrical/electronic principles and multimeters/oscilloscopes.
- Level 2: Diploma or Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics or related field. 2–4+ years of hands‑on EMC/EMI lab experience (Aerospace/Defense preferred).
- Level 3: Diploma or Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics or related field. 5+ years of progressive hands‑on EMC/EMI testing experience. iNARTE certification is a robust plus!
Core Skills & Physical Requirements
- Deep or growing familiarity with MIL-STD-461, RTCA DO-160, or DEF-STAN 59-411.
- Strong manual dexterity for handling delicate RF equipment and connections.
- Physical ability to stand, bend, stoop, and lift/move equipment up to 50 lbs.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Security Clearance & Residency Requirements
Due to the nature of our defense and aerospace projects, candidates must meet the following security criteria:
Key Requirements: NATO Secret Clearance (Canada)
- 10-Year Verifiable History: Continuous, unbroken address, employment, education, and travel history for the last 10 years.
- Out-of-Country Checks: Foreign police certificates/verifications are required if you spent 6 consecutive months or longer outside Canada during those 10 years.
- Citizenship / Status: Canadian Citizen, Permanent Resident, or a citizen of a NATO member nation vetted via a bilateral agreement.
Primary Location: ESL Labs (Dartmouth, NS / Ottawa, ON). Level 3 Applicants: Must be open to regular travel between our Ottawa, ON and Dartmouth, NS facilities.
