Position Summary
Responsibilities include but are not limited to: The assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of nursing care for patients and their families in a secure environment. The nurse functions at the Proficient level (Benner, Novice to Expert Nursing Theory) and follows the competency checklist of the assigned unit. The role is accountable for effective leadership and direction of the nursing care team, ensuring patient comfort, safety, and personal care. The nurse must perform all patient care and operational tasks, subject to reasonable accommodations, and employ all mandatory safety devices and procedures. Participation in the Respiratory Protection Program, including wearing a respirator, is required, which necessitates a clean‑shaven face.
This is a union position. FTE: 0.3 (12‑hour shift) days.
Experience
To qualify as an RN III, a minimum of 12 months experience within the last three years in the specialty area is required.
Clinical experience must enable the applicant to demonstrate clinical competencies, including EKG rhythm interpretation, during a probationary period.
Unit Specific
Medical‑Surgical, Orthopedic, Telemetry Units: Must have and maintain national certification in medical‑surgical care or critical care nursing. Classification as RN III in one specialty does not apply if transferred to another specialty area until requirements are met in the new specialty.
Surgery & Emergency Department: Current Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification through AHA required.
Licenses/Certificates
Current California Registered Nurse License
Current Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification through the American Heart Association (AHA)
Current Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) Certification through AHA
Current National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS) Certification
