Context of the project: Food manufacturing facility improvement (managing the introduction, modification, and optimization of production equipment and systems, from initial concept and design through execution, commissioning, and project closeout with emphasis on the installation and commissioning)
Day-to-day tasks
- Lead end-to-end execution of capital projects, including scope definition, design, procurement, installation, and commissioning
- Develop project requirements, cost estimates, schedules, and execution strategies to support funding approvals
- Manage multiple projects simultaneously, ensuring control of scope, cost, schedule, and risk
- Manage professional consultants, contractors and suppliers
- Coordinate cross-functional teams, including Operations, Maintenance, Quality, SHE, Supply Chain, and external contractors
- Review and align engineering deliverables across mechanical, electrical, and process disciplines
- Prepare and/or support development of technical documentation, including:
-User Requirement Specifications (URS)
-Scopes of work
-Engineering drawings and specifications
- Monitor project execution, resolve technical and operational issues, and drive timely decision-making
- Oversee installation, commissioning, and start-up activities to ensure successful system performance and smooth handover to operations
- Communicate project status, risks, and key milestones to stakeholders
- Ensure compliance with safety, food safety/GMP, and regulatory standards, and promote a strong safety culture across all project phases
- Manage external consultants, vendors, and contractors to ensure quality deliverables and alignment with project objectives
Candidate requirements
Must-haves:
- 5+ years of experience in project engineering or project management within GMP environments (pharma or food); proven experience delivering capital projects involving equipment installation, process improvements, or facility upgrades
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering - preferably Electrical or Automation
- Strong understanding of engineering documentation, including drawings, specifications, cost estimates, and bid evaluations
- Knowledge of Ontario Electrical Code / Canadian Electrical Code
- Knowledge of PLC/HMI platforms
- Familiar with automation and electrical systems
- Basic knowledge of equipment maintenance
- Proficiency in project planning tools (e.g., MS Project)
and standard engineering software is preferred
Nice to have: P.Eng, PMP
Tools / software / methodology / certification: MS Office, MS Project, knowledge of AutoCad
Soft skills: Autonomous, must be able to work on their own. Looking for someone who has a problem-solver mindset.
