Job Title: Senior Software Engineer, Foundations (Apex Legends)

Location: Los Angeles, CA; Vancouver, BC

Work Model: Hybrid

As a Senior Software Engineer, Engine Systems, you will report to Principal Technical Director and build the foundational technology that powers Apex Legends. You will design and maintain core engine systems across physics, memory, input, and platform layers. You will partner with cross-disciplinary teams to deliver scalable systems that improve performance, stability, and player experience in a live service setting.

Responsibilities

Design and maintain core engine systems across multiple domains

Own cross-cutting technical initiatives from design to release

Optimize memory, CPU, and bandwidth across gameplay systems

Debug and resolve complex issues in large-scale codebases

Integrate platform and partner technologies into the engine

Collaborate with design, art, and audio on feature development

Mentor engineers through code reviews and technical guidance

Qualifications

8+ years developing game engine or systems-level code

Strong C/C++ experience in performance-critical systems

Experience working in large, shared codebases

Shipped at least one AAA game on console or PC

Experience optimizing memory, CPU, or runtime performance

Experience developing on Sony, Microsoft,



or Nintendo platforms

Strong understanding of 3D math or simulation systems

Pay Transparency – North America
Pay ranges reflect what EA expects to pay applicants in these regions at the time of posting. Compensation also includes benefits detailed below.

British Columbia (e.g., Vancouver vs Victoria): $169,500 – $242,600 CAD

California (e.g., Los Angeles vs San Francisco): $193,100 – $296,500 USD

Benefits
In the United States, benefits include paid time off (3 weeks to start), 80 hours of sick time, 16 paid company holidays, 10 weeks additional paid time off for new parents, medical/dental/vision insurance, life insurance, disability insurance, and 401(k). Certain roles may also be eligible for bonus and equity.

In Canada, benefits include vacation (3 weeks to start), 10 days of sick time, paid top-up to EI/QPIP up to 100% of base salary for new children (12 weeks maternity, 4 weeks parental/adoption), extended health/dental/vision coverage, life insurance, disability insurance, retirement plan. Certain roles may also be eligible for bonus and equity.
