Mechanical Services is a vital part of Simon Fraser University’s Facilities Services, responsible for maintaining the essential systems that keep our campuses running smoothly. From HVAC to plumbing, the team ensures safe, efficient, and sustainable operations. About the Role
The Maintenance Mechanic performs trades duties in a variety of mechanical, fabrication, automotive and welding trades. Maintains safe working conditions, troubleshoots operating problems and mechanical failures related to building mechanical systems, and prepares for maintenance work in the assigned areas of responsibility.
Qualifications
Red Seal Millwright Trade certification, Red Seal Welding certification, or Red Seal Automotive Trade certification,
and five years of related experience in areas such as maintenance of heavy-duty machinery, vehicles, ventilation fans, heating pumps and compressors, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
- Valid BC driver's license (Class 5) and basic computer skills required.
- Working knowledge of computerized Preventative Maintenance programs.
- Knowledge of automotive scanner/laser alignment.
- Working knowledge with heavy-duty machinery and vehicle maintenance.
- Good organizational and interpersonal skills.
- Positive oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and be a team player.
- Ability to exercise mature judgment and initiative.
- Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
- Ability to lift 50 pounds.
- Ability to stand, bend, twist, reach, and walk for an extended period of time.
- Ability to work in small or confined spaces.
- Ability to work at heights .
- Ability to work in extreme temperatures.
