About the Opportunity:
Acara Solutions is seeking a Systems Design Engineer for a full-time opportunity with our client in Abbotsford, BC .

This is an excellent opportunity for an intermediate to senior-level engineer with strong experience in product design, systems engineering, system integration, and multidisciplinary engineering . The successful candidate will be responsible for designing, analyzing, implementing, integrating, and verifying complex systems involving mechanical, electronic, firmware, and software components .

This role is ideal for someone who enjoys solving complex engineering problems, working with cross-functional teams, and ensuring that all parts of a product function together as intended.

You will collaborate with mechanical, electronics, firmware, software, verification and validation, and project management teams to bring integrated product solutions to life.

What You'll Do:

Gather, review, and analyze system requirements from stakeholders and customers

Translate requirements into technical specifications, system designs, and subsystem solutions





Assess system components and technologies for feasibility, risk, performance, reliability, scalability, and readiness

Create and maintain system specifications, interface documentation, and technical design documents

Support the implementation, integration, troubleshooting, and verification of systems and subsystems

Design and execute tests to verify and validate system functionality and performance

Ensure requirements, design, testing, and validation activities are properly documented and traceable

Work closely with multidisciplinary teams including mechanical, electronics, firmware, software, V&V;, and project management

Identify technical risks and recommend mitigation strategies

Prepare technical documentation including requirements, design analysis, FMEAs, and technical reports

Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers

What You'll Need:

Bachelor's degree in Engineering or a related field

10+ years of relevant product design or product development experience

Strong experience working with multidisciplinary systems involving mechanical, electronic, firmware, and/or software components

Demonstrated ability to approach engineering design from a system-level perspective

Experience with system integration, verification, validation, requirements, traceability, and technical documentation

P.Eng. certification preferred, or eligibility and motivation to obtain P.Eng. registration

Firmware development experience is considered an asset

Leadership or mentorship experience is considered an asset

What Sets You Apart:

Firmware development experience

Previous leadership or mentorship experience

Experience taking products from concept through design, testing, validation, and production

Background in industrial machinery, electromechanical products, power tools, automation, aerospace, automotive, energy, mining, oil and gas, or hardware product development

Strong understanding of product performance, reliability, feasibility, scalability, risk, and technical readiness

Ability to identify project risks and recommend practical mitigation strategies

Comfortable working in a hands-on, collaborative, fast-paced engineering environment

Strong ownership mindset with a focus on quality, innovation, and continuous improvement
