Job Summary
In this role, you will design, develop, and maintain software applications to meet user needs and business objectives. You will analyze requirements, write clean and efficient code, and collaborate with cross‑functional teams to deliver scalable and user‑friendly applications. Your role will involve debugging and improving existing applications, ensuring optimal performance, and integrating new features to enhance functionality. With a strong foundation in application development and problem‑solving skills, you will contribute to creating creative solutions that align with organizational goals.

Key Responsibilities

Administers technical tasks within assigned projects, ensuring adherence to timelines and specifications.

Analyzes somewhat complex application requirements and provides recommendations for optimal solutions.

Applies knowledge of software development principles to design and implement functional features.

Codes and debugs application modules to maintain software performance and reliability.

Coordinates somewhat complex development activities with cross‑functional teams to align with business needs.

Develops somewhat complex application components, integrating them with existing systems for seamless functionality.

Implements software updates and patches to improve system performance and security.

Evaluates software performance metrics and identifies areas for improvement or optimization.

Recommends enhancements and innovative solutions to improve user experience and system capabilities.

Build and maintain native iOS security features and web‑based authentication flows rendered via WKWebView.





Implement and maintain bidirectional communication between native iOS code and WebView‑based authentication forms.

Work with native iOS security capabilities including biometric authentication, public key cryptography, and secure key storage via Secure Enclave and Keychain.

Integrate with backend identity services via RESTful APIs.

Collaborate with backend, product, security, and UX partners to deliver authentication experiences that are secure, reliable, and user‑friendly.

Participate in code reviews, providing and incorporating constructive feedback.

Write robust, testable, and maintainable code following MVVM architecture and team standards.

Contribute to test coverage using Swift Testing and XCTest.

Work within Xcode Cloud CI/CD pipelines to ensure reliable builds, tests, and deployments.

Proactively identify technical risks and propose pragmatic solutions.

Take ownership of iOS‑specific decisions and serve as the iOS engineering voice on the team.

Leverage AI tools as a standard part of daily development, including AI‑assisted code generation, refactoring, optimization, peer review, test generation, and documentation.

Follow guardrails and best practices for safe, responsible use of AI in engineering, ensuring no leakage of sensitive data, source code, or regulated information.

Stay current with emerging AI‑based engineering tools and apply them where they measurably improve quality, consistency, or delivery speed.

Qualifications

Experience working on authentication, identity, or account‑related features in a consumer mobile app.

Familiarity with mobile security concepts such as token management, secure storage, and session handling.

Proficiency in Swift, with familiarity in Objective‑C.

Experience working with UIKit and/or SwiftUI, and modern iOS frameworks.

Hands‑on experience integrating RESTful APIs and collaborating with backend service teams.

Familiarity with iOS architecture patterns such as MVC or MVVM.

Experience writing unit tests using XCTest and participating in code reviews.

Strong debugging and problem‑solving skills, particularly in stateful or edge‑case‑heavy flows.

Proficiency with Git and collaborative development workflows.





Clear communication skills and the ability to work effectively within a Squad model.

Demonstrated ability to work independently, make sound technical decisions, and drive work to completion with minimal oversight.

Experience applying native iOS security capabilities (e.g., biometric auth via LocalAuthentication, public‑key cryptography, Secure Enclave / Keychain) in production environments.

Familiarity with CI/CD workflows for iOS (e.g., Xcode Cloud or similar pipelines).

Comfort working with modern testing approaches using Swift Testing and/or XCTest, including maintaining test quality without reliance on third‑party frameworks.

Familiarity with Agile delivery practices and working effectively in cross‑functional squads.

Experience leveraging AI tools to enhance software development productivity, quality, or documentation, while adhering to responsible‑use guardrails.

Minimum Requirements

2‑4 years of professional iOS development experience required

5‑7 years preferred

Bachelor's Degree required

Master's Degree preferred

Preferred Requirements

Experience with WKWebView and native WebView communication patterns (e.g., WKScriptMessageHandler, JavaScript bridge).

Familiarity with OAuth and federated authentication concepts.

Familiarity with Apple security frameworks such as CryptoKit, AuthenticationServices, or DeviceCheck.

Experience working on authentication, identity, or account security features in a consumer mobile app.

Experience working on a consumer‑facing app at scale.

Demonstrated experience establishing or following AI‑assisted engineering standards or developer enablement practices.

Contributions to open‑source iOS projects or a portfolio of published App Store applications.

At the time of posting, Rakuten expects the compensation (base salary + discretionary bonus) for this role to be within the range shown below. Individual compensation will vary based on job‑related factors, including the skills, qualifications, and experience of the successful candidate as well as business need and geographic location. The successful applicant for this role will be eligible for stock options, health, vision, dental insurance, RRSP matching, Personal Time Off (PTO), Volunteer Time Off (VTO), and other employee benefits as the company implements.

CAD $92,081.00 – 142,081.00 annually
