Job Description And Responsibilities

Receive instructions, prints and work orders for job

Analyze drawings and sketches, plans details of working procedure and tools and material requirements

Select materials in accordance with suitability for job

Lay out work, prepare sketches and determine stock sizes

Set up, assemble and tack weld parts, constructing special fixtures

Perform gas and electric welding in all positions (down-hand vertical, overhead, etc.)

Make any type and size weld, such as “V” lap, butt, etc. preheating parts

Build up worn or defective surfaces

Clean, grind and flame anneal parts and welded joints

Use burning equipment to dismantle assemblies and to cut materials to size and shape

Perform brazing as required

Perform thermi-welding as directed

Exercise all safety precautions and make provisions for handling materials and equipment to and from job site as required in connection with work

Perform work requiring a working knowledge of the welding properties of various types of metals, welding rods, welding heats, stress relief, allowances for fitup and machining and the effect of shrinkage, warpage and expansion

Observe and follow all safety rules and regulations

Requirements

Grade 12 or equivalent

Journeyperson Welder License

Understanding of Lock Out / Tag Out Procedures

2-5 years of experience in welding, brazing and metal fabrication





Experience with gas and electric welding processes

Experience in Heavy Industrial Plant Maintenance preferred

Proficiency on various welding techniques

Understanding of welding metallurgy, heat treatment and stress relief

Ability to operate welding and cutting equipment

Knowledge of welding safety procedures and regulations

Solid attention to detail and ability to work with minimal supervision

Heavy work: exerting up to 100 lb of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 lb frequently, and/or up to 20 lb of force constantly to move objects.
