What is the role?

As a Principal AI Architect/Engineer you design and build AI‑powered solutions to support our AI architecture practices, governance, and AI initiatives across the bank. You lead the development of AI standards and patterns, provide architectural leadership to RBC engineering teams, partner with business lines to understand their AI needs, identify opportunities, help architect working AI solutions that deliver real value, and manage specific POCs for AI technology while engaging vendors and engineering partners.

Responsibilities

- Lead engagement with engineering and business teams to design and deliver scalable, secure and maintainable AI systems aligned with standardized platforms and patterns.
- Translate business and technical problems into implementable solution designs, and lead hands‑on development to bring those designs to life.
- Provide strong architectural guidance and opinions to AI engineering teams, reviewing designs and capturing requirements.
- Research emerging technologies and lead the engagement with vendors/partners to evaluate solutions.
- Collaborate with RBC’s engineering teams to ensure solutions are well‑designed and fit our technology strategy.
- Drive creation of AI standards, patterns, tools, agents and MCPs to support and automate our architecture practice, and promote an “as code” mindset.





Qualifications & Skills

- Strong hands‑on Python coding experience.
- Proficiency with modern AI technologies and frameworks such as LangChain, LangGraph, and other AI orchestration tools.
- Deep understanding of AI governance, AI platforms, applications architecture, and generative AI.
- Excellent problem‑solving, critical thinking, decision‑making, and communication skills.
- Experience leading architecture, design reviews, and driving technical standards.
- Strong grasp of secure AI and enterprise IT architecture.
