District 207 is seeking applicants for a Vision Teacher and Orientation and Mobility Services for the 2026-2027 school year.

Qualifications/Experience:

Qualified Educator License (PEL)

Teacher of Students who are Blind or Visually Impaired Endorsement

Certified Orientation and Mobility Specialist (COMS)

Experience implementing culturally responsive services to students and families from diverse backgrounds

Strong written and verbal communication skills

Excellent organizational skills

Strong skills with data collection and analysis

Experience at the high school and Transition level preferred

Position Description and Responsibilities:

The Vision teacher travels between schools to provide evaluation, direct instruction, and adapted materials for students with visual impairments

Provide appropriate materials, curricular support, as well as help in functional areas of daily living and vocational readiness

Provide consultation and technical assistance to staff working with students with visual impairments

Participate in special education multidisciplinary conferences and IEP meetings

Teach orientation and safe travel skills at a developmentally appropriate level to students with a visual impairment

Support students generalization of skills across environments through community based instruction and travel training





Collaborate with IEP teams to improve outcomes for students by maximizing student learning and achievement

Provide appropriate, individualized instruction through daily lessons reflective of the curriculum and the student's IEP

Instruct students on the use of adaptive devices and assistive technology (i.e, computers, note takers, digital recording devices, refreshable Braille displays, screen readers, low vision devices, etc.)

Present appropriate and specific information of student's progress towards goals, including evaluative and progress data at IEPs and Eligibility Determinations

Collaborate with students, parents, and staff to develop individualized goals and meet needs identified in their IEP

Consult with IEP teams in support of students entering the district as transfers, incoming grade 9, or if placed in a private/public day school

Provide input into students' schedules, planning for all special services, such as direct instruction and orientation and mobility, to enhance a students' independence

Assist families and teams with the coordination of outside agencies and post-secondary community supports

Provide consultation and assistance to mainstream teachers as to physical and instructional modifications needed for each student in the mainstream

All other duties as assigned
