We are looking for a Buyer for our Peterborough, Ontario site. BWXT Nuclear Energy Canada Inc. (BWXT NEC) supplies nuclear fuel and fuel channel components, services, equipment and parts for the CANDU nuclear power industry.

Job Summary

The Buyer – Fuel Operations will purchase assigned commodities and services to meet specifications for function intended, ensuring maximum return for each dollar spent while adhering to ethical purchasing practices and company policy.

Responsibilities

- Purchase assigned commodities and services.
- Obtain vendor quotations for materials, equipment, services, etc.
- Review and analyze quotes to ensure clarity and accuracy of technical and commercial items.
- Visit with suppliers to stay current with vendor capabilities.
- Develop strategic product/commodity procurement and identify new vendors, evaluating technical, market, commercial, scheduling and quality factors.
- Review purchase requisitions to assure scope is properly specified.
- Ensure sufficient lead times are given and maintain internal interface.
- Coordinate the shipment of free‑issue materials as required.
- Review cost estimates with Proposal Management personnel and prepare cost estimates for proposals.
- Create Purchase Commitment form and review supplier bids for vendor selection.
- Maintain ongoing value analysis and cost‑reduction efforts for assigned commodities.
- Expedite open orders and negotiate cost reductions with existing supply base.
- Arrange and participate in meetings between suppliers and BWC engineering, operations, and project management personnel.
- Provide supplier corrective action resolution and supplier quality improvement.
- Ensure compliance with applicable external codes, regulations and guidelines as well as internal standards set by BWC.

Required Qualifications

- College diploma or university degree.
- Three or more years of experience in supply chain management.
- CPP enrollment (preferred).




- Supplier relationship development and negotiation skills with excellent written and oral communication.
- Ability to work effectively within teams.
- Basic product knowledge and understanding of BW Canada’s business processes.
- Proficiency in most business‑related software applications.
- Knowledge of department procedures and QAM/QPM.
- Capability with regard to risk management and quality tools.
