Job Description Overview

Our Nuclear Canada business is experiencing significant growth driven by planned international and domestic New Build projects. Candu Energy Inc., an AtkinsRéalis company, places the New Build Incubator team at the forefront of developing new nuclear strategies and advancing early‑stage opportunities. The New Nuclear Development Director will play a pivotal role in building the pipeline, executing early‑stage projects, and leading multidisciplinary teams to bring new nuclear builds to market.

Responsibilities

- Proposals: Develop capture plans, proposal strategies, and maintain client relationships to secure business opportunities in target regions.
- Project Planning & Scope Definition: Create comprehensive project plans with timelines, budgets, resource allocation, and execution strategies; define scope and deliverables in line with contract documents and client requirements.
- Team Leadership & Coordination: Assemble and lead a high‑performing multidisciplinary project team across engineering, construction management, and support functions; ensure project cohesion and success.
- People Management: Recruit, interview, and develop staff; manage career development and resolve performance issues in partnership with Labour Relations.
- Contract & Risk Management: Administer contracts, control scope, manage changes, and oversee subcontractor/vendor performance; conduct risk analysis using industry best practices.
- Safety & Quality Assurance: Enforce safety protocols and quality standards; develop and implement safety programs and corrective action plans.
- Performance Monitoring & Reporting: Apply KPIs to assess project health; establish reporting protocols for contract, corporate, and stakeholder oversight.




- Procurement & Supply Chain Management: Oversee procurement strategies, contract scope, and flow‑down requirements; ensure governance and compliance throughout the supply chain.
- Stakeholder Communication: Act as primary liaison for internal and external stakeholders; maintain strong relationships with clients, partners, suppliers, and regulatory bodies.
- Ethical & Regulatory Compliance: Ensure all activities comply with corporate ethics, cybersecurity standards, import‑export regulations, intellectual property protections, and security clearance protocols.

Qualifications

- Educational Background: BSc in Business, Engineering or equivalent.
- Certifications: PMP, MBA, and/or P. Eng certification are assets.
- Project Experience: 15+ years in nuclear or major infrastructure business development, bid development, or leading/supporting projects in construction, manufacturing, or engineering services.
- Nuclear Experience: Experience with new nuclear reactor design and construction projects.
- Technical Skills: Ability to read and understand construction drawings, blueprints, and specifications.
- Supply Chain Knowledge: Understanding of nuclear supply chain and materials management principles.
- Project Delivery Expertise: Proficiency in earned value, critical path scheduling, prime contract and subcontract management, procurement, supply chain methodology, and quality assurance programs.




- Team Building: Ability to build and inspire teams of more than 20 FTE.
- People Management: Experience managing direct reports within a project delivery functional support model.
- Leadership: Lead by example, setting high standards for health, safety, and nuclear safety culture.
- Communication Skills: Excellent organizational, written, and customer‑relationship skills.
- Core Competencies: Initiative, decisiveness, perseverance, stakeholder engagement, responsibility, judgment, stress tolerance, delegation, integrity, customer focus, teamwork, and knowledge sharing.

Customers, government officials, suppliers, affiliates, Candu partners, senior executives, functional managers, trades personnel.

Work Location

Candu Energy offices in Pickering or Sheridan Park, Mississauga (additional locations and frequent travel to customer sites may be required).
