Avalon Treatment Programs is committed to providing person-centered care to children and youth with complex needs, including dual diagnosis and Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). The Lighthouse Program is currently seeking compassionate, reliable, and skilled Behavioural Support Staff to join our team for weekend shifts.
Position Summary:
As a casual/relief Behavioural Support Staff, you will provide direct care and behavioural support to children and youth with dual diagnoses. Your role includes implementing behaviour support plans, managing challenging behaviours using crisis prevention and de-escalation techniques, supporting personal care needs, and fostering a safe and structured setting.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide 1:1 or group-based support to children with Autism and developmental/intellectual disabilities
- Follow individualized behaviour support plans and daily schedules
- Utilize proactive and reactive strategies to de-escalate crisis situations
- Support with activities of daily living, including hygiene, toileting, and feeding
- Promote skill-building and community integration through structured programming
- Accurately complete daily documentation
- Collaborate with the multidisciplinary team to support client goals and safety
- Maintain a clean, safe, and supportive living environment
Qualifications:
- Diploma or Degree in Social Services, Behavioural Science, Autism & Behavioural Science, Child and Youth Work, or a related field
- Clear Broad Record Police Check
- Valid driver’s 'G' license and access to reliable vehicle (not on bus route)
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Available to work a variety of shifts (days, evenings, overnights, weekends)
Assets:
- Crisis Prevention and Intervention (UMAB) certification a definite asset.
- Knowledge of Applied Behaviour Analysis (ABA) principles
- Experience in residential or group home settings
- Experience working with individuals with dual diagnosis and Autism
