Position Summary

The Quality Assurance Technician works independently and coordinates essential Quality Assurance functions. They will conduct compliance checks of raw material, finished products, and manufacturing operations to ensure they meet current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMPs), HACCP and SQF requirements. They must report any problems or discrepancies to their supervisor.

Reporting Relationships

- The Quality Assurance Technician will report to the Quality Assurance Manager. They are expected to interact with other members of the leadership team, and staff as required to carry out their duties.

Key Responsibilities

Duties as described, included to but not limited to the following:

- Oversee and ensure compliance with all local, provincial, federal and international requirements.
- Perform appropriate tests and examinations of components, ingredients, finished products, packaging and labels received to ensure that they have meet specification. Including organoleptic evaluations when deemed necessary.
- Sample and maintain QA retention samples. Prepare samples as required for third party evaluation.
- Assure the use of the most current revision of all documentation at all times.
- Implement corrective actions when documented procedures have not been followed. Conduct material reviews. Pull damaged or non-conforming product off the line.
- Retain quality control and quality assurance records in accordance with the documented retention procedure.
- Conduct periodic Positive Manufacturing Practices Audits of the entire plant with documented corrective actions.




- QA production line checks and Finished Product checks.
- Adhere to cGMPs, SQF and HACCP written Program.
- Conduct paperwork review to ensure compliance to standards set forth by Specialty Distributing Ltd.
- Have the authority to approve or reject raw materials, packaging materials, labelling and finished products based upon conformance to established specifications.
- Record test data, enter data into computer, and generate any reports needed.
- Incorporate and/or develop new procedures as needed.
- Openly communicates with co-workers to inform them of any unusual or potentially dangerous
- Provides a strong floor presence and understanding of the processes adequate to set the example for others to follow.
- Able to complete onsite verification of other employees.
- Able to train employees on new or existing procedures.
- Follows and complies with all company health and safety rules & Provincial Occupational Health and Safety regulations.
- Follows and complies with all SQF/HACCP/GMP (Food Safety) protocols, policies and procedures.
- Assume additional responsibilities as assigned.

- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, analytical and problem solving skills.
- Good interpersonal and communication skills in order to function as a member of an interdisciplinary team.
- Ability to train, organize and supervise the efforts of a work group

Knowledge and Skills

- Grade 12 Diploma or equivalent;
- Food safe certificate, SQF/HACCP/BRC knowledge are an asset;
- Fluency in the English language (both orally and in writing);
- Previous experience in a food or supplement manufacturing facility an asset.
- Proficient in MS Word, Excel and powerpoint, Google Suite

Working Conditions

- May require overtime on occasion
- Requires physical fitness and mobility in the plant environment
- Ability to lift up to 20-30 pounds;
- A tolerance for hot temperatures;
- To stand and walk for extended periods of time while doing repetitive tasks
- Ability to work on your feet, standing and walking for 80-90% of the day, working closely with the production team to ensure product quality.
