FTL/LTL Dispatcher
The FTL/LTL Dispatcher is responsible for coordinating day-to-day full truckload and less-than-truckload transportation operations with accountability for load planning, driver communication, route execution, shipment visibility, issue resolution, and overall service performance. This role works across dispatch, customer communication, carrier coordination, appointment management, and exception handling functions to help ensure freight moves efficiently, customer requirements are met, delivery commitments are achieved, and daily operations are completed accurately in a fast-paced transportation environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Coordinate daily FTL and LTL dispatch operations including load assignment, shipment scheduling, routing, and driver support.
- Plan and monitor outbound and inbound freight movements to ensure on-time pickups, deliveries, and effective equipment utilization.
- Communicate with drivers, carriers, customers, warehouses, and internal teams to confirm load details, appointment times, shipment status, and special handling requirements.
- Review load volume, lane requirements, transit times, and equipment availability to support effective dispatch planning and capacity management.
- Monitor active shipments throughout the day and provide timely updates on delays, appointment changes, service issues, and delivery exceptions.
- Respond to real-time transportation issues such as traffic delays, missed appointments, mechanical breakdowns, damaged freight, re-consignments, and customer concerns, escalating when needed.
- Ensure drivers and carriers receive accurate dispatch instructions, bills of lading, routing details, pickup numbers, and delivery requirements before movement begins.
- Track and update shipment activity in transportation management systems, spreadsheets, and communication platforms with accuracy and timeliness.
- Coordinate with brokers, terminals, warehouses, and customers to support dock scheduling, live loads, drop-and-hook activity, and freight recovery when required.
- Verify completed loads, proof-of-delivery documentation, accessorial details, and exception notes to support billing accuracy and service follow-up.
- Help optimize route efficiency, reduce service failures, and support cost control through proactive planning and communication.

- Experience using transportation management systems, dispatch software, spreadsheets, GPS tracking tools, and communication platforms is preferred.
- Working knowledge of freight operations, shipment documentation, appointment scheduling, and service recovery processes.
- Understanding of transportation regulations, driver hours, and operational compliance requirements is an asset.
- High school diploma or equivalent is preferred; post-secondary training in logistics, supply chain, or transportation is

- Qualifications
- 2-4 years of experience in dispatch, transportation, logistics, freight coordination, or related operations is preferred.
KPIs and Performance Accountability
- Maintain strong on-time pickup and delivery performance while reducing avoidable service failures.
- Support efficient trailer, load, and route utilization aligned with operational targets.
- Improve shipment visibility through timely, accurate system updates and proactive customer communication.
- Minimize missed appointments, detention exposure, rework, and unresolved service exceptions.
- Support accurate proof-of-delivery collection, paperwork completion, and billing readiness.
- Contribute to customer satisfaction through responsive communication, issue resolution, and reliable dispatch execution.
Working Conditions
This position works primarily in a transportation, dispatch, or logistics office environment with regular communication across drivers, carriers, customers, warehouses, and internal operations teams. The role requires extended periods of computer use, phone communication, shipment monitoring, and fast-paced decision-making throughout the shift. Work may involve flexible hours based on freight volumes, customer appointments, route schedules, and business needs.
Pay: From $20.00 per hour
