Wafr Technologies
Vancouver
Company DescriptionWafr Technologies Ltd. is building the next generation of AI data center infrastructure to meet the growing demands of high-performance compute. As AI workloads increase power and cooling requirements beyond traditional limits, Wafr's proprietary cooling platform enables sustainable scaling of advanced compute environments. Its technology combines advanced thermal storage with AI-powered optimization to reduce cooling energy use by up to 80% and water consumption by up to 95%. Wafr supports both retrofits and recent AI facilities, helping operators deploy more efficient, resilient, and environmentally responsible infrastructure. Joining Wafr offers the opportunity to work on cutting-edge solutions at the intersection of AI, sustainability, and data center engineering.Role DescriptionThe Technical Lead, Platform Architecture is a full-time, on-site role based in the Greater Vancouver Metropolitan Area. This is a hands-on role responsible for taking Wafr's AI-driven data center infrastructure platform from prototype to production: architecting, building, deploying, and scaling the backend while leading a small team of engineers and staying hands-on in implementation. The Technical Lead owns critical infrastructure decisions across cloud platforms, frameworks, and languages, designs and runs CI/CD and DevOps automation, builds and maintains backend systems, APIs, and orchestration services, and translates thermal, power, and closed-loop control requirements into platform architecture (no direct OT/industrial-systems engineering required). The role sets the bar for security, uptime, observability,
and incident response, and helps shape technical strategy as Wafr scales, including mentoring, weighing in on hiring, and setting technical standards.QualificationsPrior experience working as a Solution Architect (required)6+ years in backend, infrastructure, or platform engineering, with real product experience (no formal "lead" title required if you're ready to act like one)Track record taking a product from MVP to productionStrong hands-on cloud experience (AWS, Azure, or GCP), plus CI/CD, infrastructure automation, and Docker/KubernetesSolid backend/API development and experience running high-uptime production systemsExperience with streaming or high-volume data pipelines (e.G., Kafka, Kinesis, MQTT, or similar) — this platform ingests continuous, high-volume sensor telemetrySecurity and infrastructure: hardening fluencyStartup experience: comfortable operating independently with ambiguityRealistic scoping/estimation, and a habit of surfacing risk earlyDepth in at least one of: optimization/ML infrastructure, multi-objective decision systems, or telemetry/monitoring at scaleNice to have: background in AI infrastructure, data centers, energy systems, or industrial automation;
