Position Overview

The Registered Pharmacy Technician (RPT) plays a vital role in supporting safe, efficient pharmacy operations across dispensary functions, medication packaging, and client facility services. Acting as a key liaison between the pharmacy and client facilities, the RPT ensures accuracy, regulatory compliance, and continuity of patient care — all while delivering exceptional service to patients and colleagues alike.

Key Responsibilities

Client & Facility Support

- Serve as the primary point of contact between client homes/facilities and the pharmacy, ensuring effective communication and service delivery.
- Support pharmacists in communicating policies, procedures, and best practices to facility staff.
- Assist with staff training at client facilities on medication management and compliance standards.
- Investigate and escalate client concerns, collaborating with internal teams to implement timely solutions.
- Coordinate pharmacy conversions for nursing homes, retirement homes, and community pharmacies, including profile transfers, MAR preparation, physician communication, and on-site implementation support.
- Assist with annual compliance audits and contribute to the development and maintenance of training materials and procedural documentation.

Packaging & Medication Management

- Maintain accurate medication administration records (MARs), drug record books, and packaging documentation.
- Verify compliance packaging including PacMed/STS tray checks, PacVision validation, and retail blister packaging against MARs.




- Set up and maintain patient packaging profiles within the pharmacy system; process medication and packaging changes per established protocols.
- Coordinate supply ordering for PacMed and packaging materials.
- Coordinate annual medication reviews for compliance packaging patients in accordance with OCP standards.
- Assist patients and clients with billing inquiries professionally and efficiently.

Dispensary Operations

- Support dispensary workflow through accurate prescription entry, processing, and medication preparation.
- Perform complex non-sterile compounding in accordance with professional standards.
- Conduct narcotic inventory counts and reconciliations as required.
- Practice within the full RPT scope: verify refill prescriptions, accept verbal orders from physicians, and provide counselling on diabetic products and related services.
- Liaise with IT support to troubleshoot dispensary technology issues.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and compliant dispensary environment, including inventory management and expired medication monitoring.
- Ensure ongoing compliance with all confidentiality, privacy, and regulatory requirements.

Teamwork & Collaboration

- Support overall dispensary operations and assist team members as needed to maintain service flow.




- Answer incoming calls promptly and professionally; assist with accurate prescription pickup verification.
- Provide guidance and oversight to Pharmacy Assistants and student Pharmacy Technicians.
- Contribute to a positive, collaborative team environment focused on exceptional patient care.
- Perform additional duties as assigned by management.

Qualifications & Skills

Education & Licensing

- Registered Pharmacy Technician (RPT) accreditation required.
- Licensed and in good standing with the applicable provincial regulatory body.

Experience

- Minimum 5 years of experience in a busy pharmacy environment preferred.
- Experience with Kroll or PropelRx or similar pharmacy software systems is an asset.
