Responsibilities

- Perform fire protection duties, including combustible fire zone walkdowns, hot work inspections, and fire impairments per procedural responsibilities.
- Respond to actual site incidents within prescribed time limits, including fire emergencies, medical (first aid/medical) situations, rescues from heights or confined spaces, hazardous material emergencies, and automobile extrication.
- Interact with external agencies such as fire departments, ambulance services, and HAZMAT agencies.
- Acquire and maintain appropriate driving/operating motorized equipment licences, including a DZ licence.
- Train and mentor Emergency Response Team (ERT) trainees in theoretical and practical skill training and evaluate trainee performance.
- Inspect, test, and perform minor maintenance on Emergency Response Services equipment (personal protective equipment and field equipment), including fire water supply, hose cabinets, hydrants, eyewash stations, emergency showers, lighting units, speakers, extinguishers, signage, and other safety equipment.
- Conduct safety‑related inspections and interact with other workgroups, providing input and reviewing plans for ignition source control.
- Review and ensure understanding of activated rescue plans for confined spaces and elevated height work.
- Perform visual inspections and minor maintenance of station fire exit doors and safety signage.
- Record and sign off required record forms and/or digital processes per work‑management expectations.
- Conduct, participate in, assess, and evaluate emergency exercises, drills, shift practices, and training sessions.
- Perform inspections,



testing, fit tests, and minor maintenance on emergency and hazardous response equipment, such as SCBA, fire‑fighting gear, extinguishers, and PPE.
- Serve as a technical resource for site staff on emergency services response matters.
- Provide training and information to emergency and non‑emergency staff on respiratory protection, fire procedures, rescue considerations, shift training, and safety meetings.
- Attend and participate in all required training, including ERT, ERO, and others.
- Use computer skills to input required reports and information, including updating inspection reports, fire plans, and emergency guides.
- Clean, decontaminate, identify deficiencies in, and arrange repair or replacement of Emergency Services equipment.
- Perform minor painting on Emergency Services equipment.
- Execute Emergency Response Organization (ERO) duties during a radiation emergency or drill, including event briefings, scribe duties, radiation surveys, and contaminated casualty management.
- Conduct hazard assessments, including HAZMAT, gas testing for confined spaces, and radiation surveys.
- Assume a supervisory capacity as Incident Commander when required.




- Maintain a physical fitness level commensurate with the ESM job document to perform work in emergencies wearing heavy and restrictive gear (e.g., bunker gear, SCBA).
- Perform housekeeping and fire and accident prevention practices in the performance of the work.
- Conduct fit testing for all departments and provide SCBA training on‑the‑job.
- Support the Dosimetry department for Thermoluminescent Dosimetry (TLD) badge processing.
- Assist Bruce A and Bruce B on an as‑needed basis with the relocation and inline‑service of cylinders.
- Perform other duties as required.

Education and Experience

- Grade XII and a post‑secondary certificate in fire‑related studies plus NFPA 1001 (Firefighter Level I and II).
- OR Grade XII and 3 years of municipal volunteer fire‑department experience plus NFPA 1001 (Firefighter Level I and II).

- NFPA 1001 (FF1 and FF2) Certificate
- Standard First Aid Certificate
- Valid “D” Licence with a “Z” Licence endorsement
- Valid York University Fitness, C‑PAT, OFAI, or valid Bruce Power ESPA test certificate

The Emergency Service Maintainer position is subject to drug and alcohol testing in accordance with the company’s Alcohol and Drug Use Policy BP-STND-00215, aligning with REGDOC 2.2.4, Fitness for Duty, Volume II, Managing Alcohol and Drug Use.
