Introduction

The Transportation and Infrastructure Department invites applications from qualified candidates for the position of Highway Survey Crew Chief in the Transportation Operations Division. This position offers an opportunity to lead field survey operations that support the planning, construction, and maintenance of highway infrastructure.

Duties:

The Highway Survey Crew Chief leads and directs survey field staff while performing advanced surveying work for highway projects. The role involves making independent operational decisions, ensuring compliance with departmental standards and Safe Work Practices, coordinating with project technologists and engineers, and maintaining accurate survey records.

Qualifications:

- Civil Engineering Technology Diploma or completion of Department Level 3 training courses.
- Directly related experience in all aspects of surveying (Preliminary, Construction, Bridge, Railway, Hydraulic Assessment, Culvert Replacement, and DTM).
- Knowledge of current surveying policies, procedures, and guidelines.
- Knowledge of Occupational Health, Safety and Risk Management policies and procedures.
- Strong leadership skills including the ability to provide training and appropriate technical guidance.
- Effective interpersonal and teamwork skills to work effectively with internal contacts, other branches/divisions, and stakeholders.
- Excellent analytical and decision‑making skills.
- Ability to work independently.

Conditions of Employment:

- Must be legally entitled to work in Canada
- Must possess and maintain a valid Manitoba Class 5F Driver's Licence without restrictions
- Must be able to perform mainly field work in both winter and summer
- Must be physically capable of performing the required duties of the position such as prolonged sitting, medium lifting (carrying up to 25 lbs), walking (on possible uneven surfaces) and wearing Personal Protective Equipment in both outdoor and indoor conditions
- Must be able to travel within the province to worksites by ground, water or air transportation during day and night conditions
- Must be able to work extended hours including weekday evenings and weekends with overnight stays (possibly in a camp, hotel or motel environment)
- Must be able to work in an outdoor rough terrain environment
