Our capability spans the entire project lifecycle comprising scoping, conceptual design, pre-feasibility, feasibility studies, detailed engineering, construction support and project management.We are seeking a dedicated Senior Heavy Mechanical Engineer with gate and hoist expertise to assist project work both in the office and in the field. The Mechanical Engineer is broadly responsible for establishing equipment/system requirements, performing functional analyses, preparing engineering calculations, technical specifications, data sheets and reports while mentoring and leading junior engineers. The incumbent must also develop or provide input into 3D models and 2D drawings.Key ResponsibilitiesLead the definition of heavy mechanical project scopeLead the Heavy Mechanical engineering team on projects and ensure delivery of project requirements as they relate to scope, cost and schedulePerform equipment/system condition assessments and/or analyses, establish user requirements, analyze functional and performance requirements, define design criteria, and provide input to the design team on layouts and designs (both new and refurbishments)Prepare engineering calculations such as hydro‑mechanical gate/stoplog, guide and hoist equipment sizing, multi‑girder bridge, gantry, and monorail crane capacities and design,



all while ensuring that analyses satisfy user and system requirementsPrepare technical specifications based on input received from other disciplinesConduct interface management between related systems and disciplinesManage and review engineering work packages associated with project deliverables including management of project budgets and schedulePrepare, review or approve technical deliverables such as equipment specifications, data sheets, calculations, etc.Prepare and contribute to technical memos and reports, within areas of expertiseProvide input to engineering, operating and capital cost estimatesPrepare, review, or approve project standard specifications and design criteriaProvide input to 3D models and 2D mechanical drawingsParticipate in and contribute to design reviewsAssist in the compilation and delivery of monthly engineering status reportsAssist with technical queries raised during the construction phaseAssist in the commissioning of systems on site as requiredFollow company standard quality proceduresPrepare or provide input to proposals in the area of expertiseQualifications and ExperienceBSc/BEng in mechanical engineeringRegistration as a professional engineer in Canada15 years of project engineering experience in a consulting, manufacturing, or hydroelectric utility environmentExperience in leading/mentoring small and large mechanical teams in multi-disciplinary projectsExcellent communication and interpersonal skillsGood planning and organizational skillsAbility to function with minimal supervisionWorking knowledge of industry standards,



regulations and codes pertinent to the mechanical engineering discipline, particularly hydraulic gates/stoplogs (and their guides), as well as hoists/cranesSound knowledge of engineering management systems, deliverable progress measurementExperience in client engagement as a mechanical lead in hydro‑mechanical gates and/or hoist/crane projects would be an assetAbility to delegate tasks and effectively supervise engineers and designersExperience in the use of procedures and workflows in the execution of projectsCompensationSalary Range:$120,000 - $180,000At Hatch, we are committed to fair and equitable compensation practices.
