Position Overview

The Faculty of Engineering and Applied Science at Ontario Tech University invites applications for an Assistant Teaching Professor/Associate Teaching Professor in the area of Mechatronics/Electrical Engineering. The position is expected to start July 2026, subject to budgetary approval.

Responsibilities

Duties will include preparing and delivering lecture and tutorial sessions, preparing and marking assignments, tests and examinations, responding to student inquiries, maintaining regular office hours, invigilating tests and examinations, and other teaching related duties.

Qualifications

- PhD in Mechatronics Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
- Strong academic background and an established record of excellence in teaching.
- Preference given to individuals with expertise in mechatronics, electric circuits, and electronics.
- Registered as a Professional Engineer or eligible to register as a Professional Engineer in Ontario or another Canadian province.
- Demonstrated potential for outstanding teaching contributions.
- Skills in integrating technology into teaching and proficiency in the University’s web‑centric and mobile learning environment.
- Evidence of innovative and inclusive teaching strategies and cooperative working.
- Excellent communication skills and ability to maintain effective relationships with faculty, staff, and students.

Workload





The successful candidate will be expected to follow a 70% teaching, 20% service, and 10% other workload allocation each year.

Benefits and Employment Conditions

This position falls within the bargaining unit represented by the UOIT Faculty Association and will be subject to the terms and conditions of the collective agreement between the University and the UOIT Faculty Association. Starting salary will be commensurate with experience and annual salary increases are administered per the collective agreement terms.

Faculty offers bachelor’s degrees in Electrical Engineering and Mechatronics Engineering, as well as seven other engineering programs.
