We are looking for a Director of Advocacy and Communications to join our talented team. Please note the location of this position will be determined later in the recruitment process based on organizational business needs and the successful candidate’s location in Canada. Preference will be given to those applicants that can work occasionally from the CKC office in Etobicoke, Ontario. NATURE & SCOPE: The Director of Advocacy and Communications is a member of the Senior Management Team. The position is accountable for the over- arching strategy and execution that ties together CKC’s advocacy efforts, membership engagement and external communications to support our mission and our vision. The Director will manage and work with the Manager, Government & Stakeholder Relations and the Manager, Marketing and Communications. The Director will use their knowledge and expertise to strengthen our ability to realize our vision and implement our advocacy roadmap using strategic communications to support our efforts to engage CKC stakeholders, build and expand our digital presence and growing the CKC voice in Canadian canine conversations. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: Work with the leadership team,



the Board of Directors and volunteer committees to build programs that strategically strengthen the excellence of CKC and our members’ efforts for the health and preservation of purebred dogs. Further develop and implement CKC’s advocacy road map and recommend the resources required to grow our expertise and impact. Build out CKC’s communication framework that addresses key advocacy and communication requirements to support CKC’s key messaging. Responsible for CKC digital communications, assets and strategies including the launch of a new website and the build out of our social media channels. Develop CKC’s earned media strategy and support opportunistic and crisis communications as needed. Work in partnership with the Operations and E-business teams, to have consistent and effective communications to our various stakeholder groups. Support this team to further engage and grow CKC’s membership to support CKC’s revenue, reputation, and voice as the Canadian canine expert. Be the senior staff liaison for volunteer committees as assigned. Build 3rd party partnerships with like-minded organizations that support our advocacy and communication efforts. Contributes to corporate and divisional budgets for revenues and expenses. Provides effective direction and leadership to staff, including effective change management, performance evaluation and encouragement of staff participation in personal and professional development. Other responsibilities as required. SKILLS: Collaborative and true team player Strong communication,



presentation, and project management experience Experience with volunteer committees and passionate Board of Directors Love of purebred dogs OTHER: Bilingualism (English and French) is considered an asset. WORK ENVIRONMENT: Ability to work productively remotely. Preference to those candidates who will thrive in a hybrid work model including occasional days in our head office in Etobicoke. CKC is a dog friendly work workplace – comfort with dogs is required. EXPERIENCE: 10+ years hands on and management experience as a leader in communication and advocacy. Experience with knowledgeable volunteer committees and passionate Board of Directors. Experience working in canine-based organizations and dealing with dog related advocacy, and communication issues is preferred, yet not required.
