We recognize the land and waters that have inspired our work and offer gratitude to those Indigenous peoples on whose territory we work, live and play.About the roleCanadian Blood Services is looking for aTemporary Full-Time Solutions Architectto join our dynamicIT Strategy & Governance team .TheIT Strategy & Governanceteam is responsible for ensuring that Canadian Blood Service's technology resources are used effectively and align with its overall business goals.Reporting to the Chief Architect, in this role you will design and evolve enterprise and cloud-based solutions that support critical business and operational goals. You will work closely with business stakeholders, domain architects, and technical leaders to assess existing systems, identify modernization opportunities, and deliver scalable,



integrated solutions across donor acquisition, testing, supply chain, and distribution domains. This role requires strong architectural expertise, a solid understanding of enterprise platforms, and the ability to translate complex business requirements into practical, compliant, and future-ready technology solutions.Formula for successUnderstand business goals and operational challenges, such as improving surge capacity for products and addressing shortages across domains like donor acquisition, collection, testing, supply chain, and distribution.Analyze current enterprise and custom-developed solutions to identify architectural limitations, capacity constraints, and lifecycle considerations. Document findings and recommend modernization strategies.Collaborate with domain architects and business stakeholders to design integrated solutions that align with organizational objectives and technology roadmaps.Develop architecture patterns and best practices for hybrid and cloud-based applications, leveraging modern technologies such as API management, containerization, serverless computing, and microservices.Present solution recommendations and architectural strategies to leadership and cross-functional teams, ensuring alignment with business processes and compliance requirements.Partner with program management and other technical leaders to ensure all system requirements are integrated into the applicable technology roadmaps.Demonstrate deeper understanding of platforms such as SAP, MAK.Care, healthcare product testing systems, and other enterprise platforms. Recommend strategies to scale these platforms to meet evolving business needs while maintaining performance and compliance.Desired education and skillsPost-secondary education in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical discipline from a recognized institution.Proven experience (5+ years) as a Solutions Architect or in a similar role designing and implementing enterprise-grade solutions.Proven systems-thinking capabilities to ensure all components of the enterprise ecosystem work cohesively, understanding the interdependencies between business processes, data flows, platforms, and integrations.



Anticipate upstream and downstream impacts of architectural decisions, identify systemic risks or bottlenecks, and design solutions that optimize end‑to‑end performance, resilience, and scalability across the organization.Familiarity with integration patterns and modern application technologies (e.G., containerization, API management).Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to anticipate and address solution delivery challenges.Effective leadership, excellent interpersonal and communications skills, diplomacy and sound management skills are required.Proven ability to work with IT management in an advisory capacityDeep knowledge of the business, core processes, and how data and applications automate those processes.Project management experience on large scale projects.Ability to evaluate multiple technologies and recommend approaches.Demonstrated ability to work with customers/users and project team members.What we offer youPercentage in lieu of benefits and vacation.Annual performance award up to 10%.Defined benefit pension plan.Employee discounts, wellness program, professional resources.What you can expectThis role will work in a hybrid setting with requirements to be onsite at a Canadian Blood Services location 40% of the time/2 days of the week.You will work Monday to Friday, 37.5 hours per week, 7.5 hours per day.If you are located outside of Ottawa, you may be expected to travel to our office location in Ottawa – 2540 Lancaster Rd, Ottawa, Ontario, quarterly for in-person team meetings when required.Diversity and inclusion play a vital role in ensuring health equity for patients across Canada.
