The Chance
ECO Canada is seeking an experienced Business Development Manager to help grow our environmental, climate change, sustainability, ESG, workforce development, and professional services portfolio.
This new role within the Professional Services team will identify and pursue project opportunities from government, industry, Indigenous organizations, academic institutions, funders, and strategic partners. The successful candidate will build a strong opportunity pipeline and lead the development of proposals, RFP responses, funding applications, and partnership opportunities.
This is a fixed-term contract ending March 31, 2027. An extension or transition to a permanent role may be considered based on measurable results, including project acquisition, pipeline growth, and proposal success.
Key Responsibilities
- Identify and pursue new business, funding, and partnership opportunities aligned with ECO Canada’s services and mandate.
- Monitor RFP platforms, procurement portals, funding announcements, industry networks, and other sources of new opportunities.
- Build and maintain a pipeline of qualified clients, funders, partners, and project opportunities.
- Lead proposals, expressions of interest, concept notes, RFP responses, and funding applications.
- Coordinate proposal contributions from internal teams, subject‑matter experts, finance, marketing, and external partners.
- Develop proposal workplans, budgets, timelines, partnership structures, and outcome frameworks.
- Build relationships with governments, funders, industry associations, Indigenous organizations, academic institutions,
environmental employers, and strategic partners.
- Represent ECO Canada in meetings with prospective clients, partners, and funders.
- Work with internal teams to identify integrated service and cross‑selling opportunities.
- Track opportunities, submissions, outcomes, expected value, and next steps.
- Provide regular pipeline, proposal, conversion, and revenue updates to the VP, Professional Services.
- Help improve business development systems, proposal tools, templates, and client engagement processes.
What You Bring
- Eight to ten years of relevant experience in business development, proposal development, consulting, environmental services, sustainability, climate change, ESG, workforce development, or a related field.
- Demonstrated experience identifying and responding to RFPs, grants, funding calls, and procurement opportunities.
- A proven record of developing successful proposals or securing funded projects.
- Experience working with government, funders, industry, Indigenous organizations, academic institutions, or non‑profit organizations.
- Excellent writing skills and the ability to prepare persuasive proposals, concept notes, executive summaries, and client materials.
- Robust relationship‑building, communication, and stakeholder engagement skills.
- The ability to manage competing deadlines, work independently, and coordinate effectively across teams.
- Strong business judgment and the ability to turn ideas into practical, measurable, and fundable projects.
- Post‑secondary education in environmental studies, sustainability, business, public policy, communications, economics, or a related field.
A graduate degree or relevant professional designation is considered an asset.

Location and Work Arrangement
This role is based at ECO Canada’s Calgary head office. After successfully completing the three‑month probationary period, eligible employees may transition to a hybrid schedule with at least three days per week in the office.
