When we are inclusive and diverse in a way that reflects the broader world we serve, we are able to draw from a wider community of excellence within the regions we operate.LEADING AT MONTROSEAs the Vice President of the Geotechnical Service Line, you will provide leadership, expertise and an entrepreneurial mindset to establish and sustain an operational geotechnical service line. The geotechnical practice will be an organic growth initiative centered around servicing long‑standing clients in the Energy/Oil & Gas, Infrastructure and Mining sectors. Responsibilities include organically building the new geotechnical service line by establishing a reliable team with client engagement, business development, managing and delivering diverse projects for new and existing clients. Emphasis of the geotechnical practice will include geohazard identification, field reconnaissance, managing subsurface investigation programs, engineering design, construction support, and geohazard monitoring and geotechnical instrumentation.RESPONSIBILITIESDevelop and set the strategic path to establish a geotechnical practicePosition Montrose as the technical leader in the geotechnical industry by inspiring thought leadership, with a focus on technical quality, and innovationProvide leadership and direction for recruiting and organically setting up a geotechnical practiceFoster engagement, ensure ongoing communication, and develop talent across the geotechnical businessDrive a culture of business acumen that includes direction and planning to deliver budgeted business performanceCommunicate priorities and align resources to drive operational performance to achieve organizational objectivesPartner closely with the Canadian Sales Team to accelerate organic growth through a strong client portfolio and strategic client selection,
including segmentation by marketDeliver operational excellence through consistent project delivery, quality and strong resource management practicesFoster a high-performance culture through highly visible leadership that embraces continuous improvement, is client focused, conducts business in the highest ethical manner and promotes inclusive behavior designed to enable each member of the team the ability to achieve personal and professional satisfactionEngage with an established client base to expand our geotechnical service offering beyond our core environmental service lineOperate as and build a team of seller‑doer’s, collaborating across service lines to help develop and support geotechnical opportunitiesApply high‑level geotechnical engineering techniques and processes to establish working practices involving engineering work including concept development, preliminary design, final design, procurement, construction, and operationPerform professional geotechnical engineering services to conduct investigations and inspections of proposed and existing site conditions, including subsurface investigations, soil foundation engineering, settlement analysis, geological hazards, slope stabilityRemain current in latest geotechnical engineering techniques and practices and take on responsibility for ensuring work products are technically sound and in conformance with industry practice and codesWhere applicable, may lead the operational onboarding and integration of newly acquired businesses into the Canadian operations within their service lineMentor staff to support their growth and professional developmentPerform additional responsibilities as required by business needsQUALIFICATIONSBachelor’s Degree in Geotechnical Engineering, Civil Engineering with geotechnical focus15+ years of relevant post‑education experience in engineering and geotechnical designKnowledge and experience in multiple provinces across Canada, specifically British Columbia, Alberta and OntarioExperience working with and collaborating with colleagues and clients outside of CanadaExperience with merger and acquisition integration related to geotechnical practicesProfessional Engineering License in British Columbia, Alberta or OntarioDemonstrated ability to thrive in a high growth, fast paced and matrixed organization, working collaboratively with all functional support areas i.E. HR, Finance, Sales, Marketing, Safety, Legal etc.Demonstrated leadership, business acumen, employee development, organizational advancement and succession showcaseProficient with geotechnical engineering principles, practices, process, design/build,
and the application to permitting and project work‑related issuesExperience with planning, design, and program/construction management; including projectinvolvement in a variety of mitigation, new design, and construction projectsProficiency with technical writing, office automation, discipline‑specific design software (i.E., Slide, LPILE, Settle3, Geostudios, PLAXIS, etc.), technology, math principles, predictive models, spreadsheets, and toolsExperienced with providing critical review for documents and preparing technical deliverables and plans with a high degree of complexityWell‑developed critical thinking and problem‑solving skills required to apply technical knowledge to reach conclusions from testing results, data collation, computations, statistical analysis and arriving at effective, economical, and logical solutionsDemonstrated effectiveness at coordinating and assertively directing subcontractors and others to consistently complete tasks safely and efficientlyMust be flexible to a variety of schedules to meet business needs and able to prioritize responsibilities and quickly adapt to change in a pressure work environmentFrequent travel will be required depending on client, team and project‑specific requirementsWHY CHOOSE MONTROSEAt Montrose you will be part of an amazing community of collaborative people who live shared mission and principles and bring industry‑leading technical expertise to their work every day. This is a permanent position with a salary range of $250,000–$280,000, starting pay is dependent on multiple factors, such as skills, experience and work location.
