Security Ambassador - Full Time - Mount Sinai Hospital 5 days ago Be among the first 25 applicants Overview Position: Security Ambassador Site: Mount Sinai Hospital - 600 University Ave - Toronto Category: Averaging Agreement: Overtime is Averaging Agreement (AA) after 88 hours Hours: Continental Rotation - / Payrate: $27.05 Internal Posting Date: January 8, 2026 Internal Closing Date: January 15, 2026 External Closing indifferent: January 22, 2026 Mandatory 4‑day in‑class certification training for MOAB and Use of Force at the Etobicoke office. Valid Immunization Record (Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, TB skin tests 1 & 2) required prior to onboarding. Duties & Responsibilities Working on assigned 12‑hour shifts, supporting the Emergency department clinical team in proactive identification of potential violence. Monitoring and patrolling emergency department waiting areas, engaging patients, visitors and staff to foster a positive safety culture and enhance user experience through respectful interactions. Using verbal techniques and staff resources to identify strategies for de‑escalation of potentially violent behavior. Developing relationships and maintaining liaison with clinical and operational stakeholder groups (Triage, Admitting, Nursing, Social Work, Mental Health, Security, volunteers) to ensure effective communication and consultation in support/intervention strategy development. Acting as principal contact for security services within the emergency department and liaising with emergency responders, law enforcement, and emergency services for risk management. Observing changes in physical condition of those awaiting services and notifying clinical staff of concerns. Conducting and documenting an hourly census of the number of persons in waiting areas.

Developing customized “Approach Plans” for individuals known to present a potential risk of violence during consultations with stakeholders. Not directly engaging in physical interventions unless required to preserve own or others safety; engages site security or Code White team when needed. Participating in multidisciplinary stakeholder briefings and debriefings and providing input into patient behavior management planning as required. Skills & Abilities Sound judgment and effective interpersonal skills to manage hostile, aggressive, or inappropriate behavior. Maintaining an empathetic approach to others even in high‑stress conflict situations. Working knowledge of applicable legislation such as the Criminal Code of Canada. Physical abilities to carry out the duties of the position.
