Job Summary & Key Responsibilities Duties include full responsibility for delivery and administration of teaching duties (lecture prep and delivery according to course syllabus; exam prep, delivery, and marking; TA supervision, etc.) for PHYC 4230 Intro to Solid State Physics (Winter 2027).

This course is an introduction to the basic concepts of solid-state physics that are related to the periodic nature of the crystalline lattice.

Topics include chemical bonding, crystal structure and X-ray diffraction, lattice dynamics and thermal properties, the free electron theory of metals, electrons in a periodic potential, semiconductors, and magnetism.

Lectures: Tuesdays and Thursdays: 2:30pm to 4:00pm Reasonable office hours should be available to students.

Position reports to the Chair of the Department of Physics & Atmospheric Science.

Qualifications/Requirements of Position Candidates must have an advanced degree in Physics (MSc or PhD).

Critical thinking skills and relevant teaching experience at the University level is required, as well as excellent computing, organization, and written communication skills.

Ability to communicate complex ideas effectively, foster student learning, work collaboratively with diverse faculty and students,



and contribute to an inclusive academic setting are required.

Salary Range/Pay Rate As per CUPE Collective Agreement.
