The salary range for this position is CAD $41.42 - $59.52 / hour.

Burnaby Hospital plays an essential role to those living in the community by delivering a variety of health care services. Services and specialties include emergency medicine, intermediate-level critical care, medical imaging, internal medicine, hospitalist medicine, geriatric medicine, neurology, gastroenterology, palliative, psychiatry, oncology, outpatient clinics, and an extensive surgery program with anesthesia, orthopedics, general surgery, ENT, ophthalmology, obstetrics and gynecology, urology, and plastics specialties.

We are currently hiring for a Registered Nurse to join our Surgical Services - Operating Room team at Burnaby Hospital located in Burnaby, B.C.

Detailed Overview

In accordance with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM) standards of practice and the Mission and Values of Fraser Health, the Registered Nurse (RN), O.R. provides direct nursing care to patients within the Operating Room (OR)



according to established standards and administrative policies and procedures. Assesses patients physical and psycho-social needs; identifies problems, plans, implements, documents, evaluates and coordinates the nursing care of assigned patients and performs scrubbing and circulating duties.

Responsibilities

- Assesses, plans, implements and evaluates nursing care of patients, identifying actual or potential problems and planning interventions.
- Receives and admits patients to the OR, coordinating and providing nursing care according to physician and anaesthetist orders and in conformance with established standards and hospital policies. Sets priorities and delegates tasks to appropriate staff.
- Identifies and reduces risk factors that may impact the patient and/or health care team and acts as an advocate for patient autonomy, respect, privacy, dignity and access to information.
- Modifies care as needs change, initiating immediate treatment such as applying non-invasive monitoring devices if required.
- Obtains, checks, sets up and positions supplies, instruments and equipment required for surgery, ensuring instruments and equipment are in working order and reporting those in need of repair.
- Follows standardized count policy and provides appropriate documentation.
- Performs scrub and circulation duties within the OR according to prescribed procedures and protocols.
- Collects information from a variety of sources using observation, communication and physical assessment skills to enable appropriate nursing care.
- Participates in quality improvement activities and research, identifying patient care issues and collecting data.
- Serves as an active member on nursing and hospital committees and councils to improve patient care and the work environment.
- Supports orientation and ongoing education of nursing staff and students, acting as a preceptor and mentor as appropriate.
- Contributes to the evaluation of patient care programs, techniques, standards and procedures by providing feedback on effectiveness and patient care outcomes.
- Maintains a safe environment for patients, families and staff by adhering to established safety and emergency practices and procedures.




- Performs other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education and Experience

Graduation from an approved School of Nursing. Current practicing registration as a Registered Nurse with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM).

One (1) year's recent relevant clinical nursing experience in the designated clinical area, and completion of post graduate coursework and/or certification applicable to the designated clinical area, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

- Ability to operate related equipment, including relevant computer applications.
- Physical ability to perform the duties of the position.
