Feeding Assistants play a vital role in supporting our residents during mealtime, ensuring they receive the nutrition they need in a comfortable and supportive environment. Volunteers will assist staff in setting up meals, helping residents to the dining area, and providing encouragement during mealtime.
Key Responsibilities
Assist with meal setup, including preparing trays and organizing dining tables.
Help transport wheelchair-bound residents to and from the dining area.
Support staff with feeding residents who require assistance.
Encourage residents to complete their meals and provide a friendly, engaging dining experience.
Follow safety and hygiene protocols to ensure a clean and comfortable dining setting.
Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications & Requirements
Must be 18 years or older.
Robust communication skills in English, Cantonese, or Mandarin are required.
Successful completion of TB screening and Vulnerable Sector Screening.
An active interest in helping seniors in a compassionate,
understanding and patient manner.
Completion of the feeding training.
Commitment & Locations
Available Monday to Sunday for 3–4 hour shifts or as assigned.
A minimum commitment of 6 months is required.
The position will be at the Mon Sheong Scarborough Long‑Term Care Centre (2030 McNicoll Avenue, Scarborough, ON).
Volunteer Requirements
Willing to undergo a background or police records check.
Minimum 16 years old (though general requirement is 18).
Willing to complete medical forms.
Fluent in Cantonese or Mandarin.
Willing to undergo a Tuberculosis (TB) test.
