Life Support Training Educator
Location: Halifax
Type of Employment: Permanent Hourly Full Time (100% FTE) – 1 position
Start Date: ASAP

Compensation: $ – $ per hour
Responsibilities
The Life Support Training Educator plans, delivers, and evaluates life‑saving skills training for staff across all IWK Health sites. This includes Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS), Pediatric Life Support (PALS), Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP), and other resuscitation or emergency response programs in line with national guidelines and centre protocols. The educator ensures that clinical and non‑clinical personnel maintain current certification, understand emergency procedures, and can respond effectively to life‑threatening situations. In addition, the educator may participate in clinical audits, mock codes, and quality‑improvement initiatives to enhance patient safety and emergency preparedness.
Qualifications
Successful completion of a degree or diploma related to a regulated healthcare profession.
Current qualified healthcare registration or licence (e.g., Respiratory Therapy, Registered Nurse, Paramedic).
Certified instructor status in BLS/ACLS/PALS/NRP is an asset.
Certification in Instructor Trainer (IT) level with Heart and Stroke/Canadian Pediatric Society is an asset.
Minimum 3 years of recent clinical experience providing resuscitation in acute or critical care, emergency services or a related field.
Experience in adult education, simulation‑based learning, or clinical teaching is preferred.
Robust interpersonal and communication skills.
Skill in adult learning and educational approaches.
Demonstrated time management, verbal and written communication, organisational and interpersonal skills.
Demonstrated initiative and creative problem solving.
Proven team‑building and leadership skills.
Competency in additional languages is considered an asset.
