Senior Mining Practitioner – Opportunity

An opportunity exists for a Senior Mining Practitioner to join our environmental permitting practice. You will be responsible for leading the delivery of environmental permitting, regulatory compliance and closure solutions for mining sector clients. The role requires driving solutions, working with multi‑disciplinary engineering and technical teams on baseline and impact assessment projects, feasibility studies, rehabilitation and closure projects, and leading multi‑disciplinary scopes within a team of experts while interacting directly with clients and regulators.

The position can be based out of any of our major Ontario offices: Waterloo, Hamilton, Mississauga, Markham, Toronto, Ottawa, Sudbury or Thunder Bay, with periodic travel to other Stantec offices and client offices, and an opportunity to work remotely two to three days per week.

Key Responsibilities

- Implement the environmental assessment (EA) and permitting process for mining projects.
- Act as client liaison and support business development.
- Write and coordinate proposals and reports.




- Conduct desktop studies to support regulatory requirements.
- Develop and implement consultation programs.
- Effectively communicate and liaise with internal multi‑disciplinary teams, clients, regulatory agencies, and the public.
- Manage projects, including scheduling, health & safety, subcontractors, budgets, and QA/QC procedures.
- Support other environmental services projects as warranted.

Capabilities and Credentials

- Strong understanding of the mining sector, focused on Ontario, Quebec, and North America.
- Proven understanding of environmental aspects of the mining sector through all life‑cycle stages.
- Experience leading EAs and navigating permitting processes for large or complex mining projects, ideally in Ontario or elsewhere in Canada.
- Knowledge of relevant mining acts, regulations, policies, guidance, mineral exploration, mine waste disposal, and mineral processing methods.
- Strategic thinker who establishes a permitting approach with consideration of all discipline interactions during project start‑up and commencement.
- Strong leadership and business development skills, including relationship building with a mining client base.




- Entrepreneurial orientation and understanding of consulting business development challenges.
- Experience liaising with government and Indigenous communities.

Education and Experience

- Background in Environmental Science, Environmental Planning, Geology, Engineering, or a related multi‑disciplinary field with an applicable skilled designation.
- Minimum 15 years of professional experience in progressively senior positions focused on mining.
- Experience with explorers, producers, and consulting service providers to the mining sector, or a combination thereof.
- Demonstrated technical skills and advanced educational credentials are preferred.
- Experience within a consulting organization is a strong asset.

Pay Range

- Lower Mainland – BC, GTA & Ottawa, Ontario: $114,600.00 – $164,600.00 Annually
