OverviewReporting to the Structural Section Manager, the Senior Structural Engineer is a member of the integrated project team that contributes structural engineering knowledge and analysis during the design phase. With a focus on water retaining structures, the project mix will be varied across building and non-building structures in collaboration with HDR's Water, Resources, and Transportation Business Groups. The role involves working on multiple projects with project sites in various locations. The Senior Structural Engineer may be involved in construction contract administration, site inspections on different projects, condition assessments, peer reviews, and quality reviews. The successful candidate will mentor and lead within a growing integrated engineering team, promoting leadership skills and consolidating design and construction documentation processes. Common areas for progression include narrower Technical Specialization and Project Management.In the role of Senior Structural Engineer, we 'll count on you to:Serve as a technical expert with recognized authority in structural engineering as it relates to projects; resolve problems of greater scope and complexityPlan and develop projects or design activitiesActively participate in development of project deliverables. Plan, organize and supervise, and seal work of medium to large teams of professionals and techniciansSupport a wide variety of projects that require Owner’s Engineering, consulting, and detailed designParticipate in development of procurement and construction specifications, design reviews and technical assessment of construction progressPerform complex assignments exercising judgment in evaluation, selection and modification of standard engineering techniques and proceduresServe as Project Manager on larger projects, though project management is not sole focus of positionProduce and coordinate several projects concurrentlyEstablish client relations (internal and external clients) and be involved with marketing, contractual,



design and production meetingsCoordinate staffing and workload of staff through entire project development to complete documents on scheduleConduct schematic, design development and contract document work sessions at project sites in conjunction with other Project Managers, appropriate technical professionals and other disciplinesPerform other duties as neededScope of workWater and wastewater structuresConcrete, Steel, and Masonry structuresIn addition to building structures, the scope might extend to different civil and linear structures, including transportation, water, and waste management projectsPreferred QualificationsMaster’s Degree in Structural Engineering is preferred.Proficiency with finite element structural design software such as SAP2000, ETABS, SAFE, or similar; working knowledgeof AutoCAD, Revit, BIM 360, BluebeamExpert in local and national building codes in Canada and the US (e.G. ASCE7, NBCC)Strong communication, listening and mentoring skills, and ability to handle multiple concurrent assignmentsGood leadership and organizational skillsExperience in coding, programming, and design automation is a plusExperience and/or interest in sustainable design/LEED is desiredExperience with ACI 350 (and/or CSA S900) structures, particularly water retaining structures, is a plusExperience with structural condition assessment, repair, and rehabilitationComputer knowledge of Risa 3D, RAM, STAAD PRO is a plusRequired QualificationsBachelor 's degree in Civil or Structural EngineeringA minimum of 10 years of structural engineering experience related to building designProfessional engineering license (PE or P.Eng)
