Reporting to the Maintenance Supervisor, the Journeyperson Sprinkler Fitter is responsible for installing, inspecting, testing, maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing fire protection and fire suppression systems throughout the plant. This role is critical to ensuring the facility’s fire protection systems remain fully operational, code compliant, and reliable to support a safe working environment. We are looking for a safety-focused, skilled tradesperson who takes pride in quality workmanship, enjoys solving mechanical challenges, and thrives in a fast-paced industrial environment.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Install, inspect, test, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair wet, dry, pre-action, deluge, and standpipe fire sprinkler systems and related fire protection equipment.
- Perform routine inspections, testing, and preventative maintenance in accordance with applicable codes, standards, and company procedures.
- Diagnose system deficiencies, equipment failures, leaks, and complete repairs in a safe and timely manner.
- Install, replace, and repair sprinkler heads, valves, piping, hangers, backflow preventers, fire pumps and associated components.
- Read and interpret blueprints, fire protection drawings, schematics, and technical specifications.
- Perform system modifications and upgrades to maintain compliance with applicable fire codes and operational requirements.
- Coordinate and support scheduled inspections,
testing, and maintenance during planned shutdowns and respond to emergency situations.
- Maintain accurate inspection, testing, maintenance and repair records.
- Work safely at heights, in confined spaces, and within a heavy industrial environment.
- Communicate effectively with the Maintenance team, Operations, contractors and regulatory inspectors.
- Follow all company safety policies, safe work procedures, and applicable codes and regulations.
- Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives that enhance safety, system reliability, and operational efficiency.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Journeyperson Sprinkler Fitter Certificate of Qualification (Red Seal preferred).
- Valid BC Trades Qualification or Interprovincial (Red Seal) Certification.
- Valid Class 5 driver’s license.
- Experience installing, inspecting, testing, maintaining and repairing industrial or commercial fire sprinkler and fire suppression systems.
- Knowledge and applicable fire protection codes and standards, including NFPA standards and provincial regulations.
- Experience in a sawmill, forestry, manufacturing, or other heavy industrial environment is considered a strong asset.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, fire protection drawings, and technical manuals.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
- Willingness to work a variety of shifts, overtime as operational requirements require.
Rate of Pay: $51.245 per hour
