Independent Contract Night-Shift Safety Supervisor – Mining Project Location:
Approximately 50 km from Sparwood, BC Term: Late August through the end of November 2026 Schedule: 12-hour night shifts; anticipated 7 days on/7 days off
Contract Rate: $62 per hour, plus GST if applicable
Live-Out Allowance: $200 per day.
Travel: Rotational travel compensation based on the contractor’s home location
Contract Status: Independent contractor; contingent on project award
This is an independent subcontractor opportunity and is not an employee position. The successful contractor must operate as an independent business, invoice for services and maintain their own liability nsurance and statutory obligations. We are seeking an experienced field safety professional to provide dedicated night-shift safety oversight for a pumping crew at a mine site in the Elk Valley. The pumping crew will have its own operational supervisor and technician.
The Safety Supervisor will not be responsible for directing the crew’s work.
Responsibilities - Participate in nightly tailgate meetings. - Verify that Field Level Hazard Assessments are completed. - Conduct safety check-ins with the crew every two hours. - Maintain regular communication while workers walk the pipeline in pairs at night. - Monitor field activities and identify safety concerns. - Initiate the site emergency response plan when required. - Communicate safety concerns to the pumping crew’s operational supervisor.
Mandatory Requirements
- Valid National Construction Safety Officer (NCSO) or Construction Safety Officer (CSO) certification.
- Current WorkSafeBC Intermediate First Aid certificate, formerly OFA Level 2.
- Current WorkSafeBC Transportation Endorsement.
- Demonstrated hands-on field safety experience in construction, industrial operations, mining or another heavy-industry environment.
- Practical experience conducting field inspections, reviewing FLHAs and monitoring active work.
- Active WorkSafeBC coverage in good standing and the Ability to provide a current WorkSafeBC clearance letter before the contract begins and upon request throughout the contract.
- Ability to work independently in a remote field setting.
- Ability to work 12-hour night shifts on a rotational schedule.
- Availability from late August through the end of November 2026.
This is a field-based safety position. Applicants whose experience is limited to administrative safety duties, document control or office-based program support will not be considered.
BC Mine Supervisor Certificate
A current BC Mine Supervisor Certificate is an asset but is not required when applying. The selected contractor must complete the online BC Mine Supervisor Certification before mobilizing to the project. The certification takes approximately four hours to complete.

Pay: $62.00 per hour
