About Our Client
Our client is a long-established Canadian manufacturer that has served the North American mining and industrial sectors for more than 120 years.
The organization is entering a major period of modernization and expansion, supported by government funding, new automated equipment, ERP improvements, and facility upgrades.
The Opportunity
Reporting directly to the President and Owner, the Controller will oversee the company’s accounting and financial operations while acting as a trusted business partner to the leadership team. This individual will play an important role in supporting financial strategy, operational performance, capital investment, and long-term growth.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the company’s accounting, financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, and internal control functions.
- Prepare and analyze monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
- Provide financial insights, forecasts, KPIs, and recommendations to the President and leadership team.
- Oversee cash flow, working capital, banking, and treasury activities.
- Support expansion plans, capital projects, modernization initiatives, and government-funded programs.
- Partner with operations and production leaders to strengthen cost accounting, inventory controls, product costing, margins, and operational performance.
- Monitor financial results against budgets, forecasts, and strategic growth targets.
- Lead the annual audit process and manage relationships with auditors, lenders, government agencies, and external advisors.
- Ensure compliance with applicable accounting standards, tax requirements, and government reporting obligations.
- Identify opportunities to improve financial systems, reporting processes, controls,
and ERP functionality.
- Provide financial analysis related to equipment purchases, capital investments, pricing, profitability, and business expansion.
- Lead, coach, and develop the finance and administrative team.
- Support HR administration and oversight, depending on the successful candidate’s experience.
- Work closely with a progressive management team as the company prepares for its next stage of growth.
Qualifications
- CPA designation is strongly preferred.
- Minimum of five years of progressive accounting or financial leadership experience.
- Experience in manufacturing or another operational environment is considered a strong asset.
- Solid knowledge of financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, internal controls, cash flow management, and financial analysis.
- Experience with cost accounting, inventory, capital projects, and ERP systems is highly desirable.
- Public accounting or audit experience with a national or regional accounting firm would be valuable.
- Demonstrated ability to partner with owners, presidents, operational leaders, and external stakeholders.
- Strong leadership, communication, analytical, and problem‑solving skills.
- Comfortable working in a hands‑on environment that combines strategic planning with day‑to‑day financial operations.
- Able to support a growing organization through modernization, process improvement, and organizational change.
Compensation And Benefits
- $120,000-$170,000 base salary
- Annual performance bonus based on a percentage of EBITDA
