The Academic and Technical Writing Program (ATWP) at the University of Victoria invites applications for a tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Teaching Professor to commence 1 July 2027. The successful candidate will be appointed into the Faculty of Humanities.

Salary Range
The candidate's qualifications, experience, and overall market demand will determine the candidate’s final salary offer. The salary for this position includes a competitive salary range of $100,000 - $124,000. UVic is committed to offering an equitable and competitive salary, inclusive of a generous perks package, eligible leaves and pension plan.

Requirements

ESSENTIAL CRITERIA

- PhD in a relevant field withspecializations in one or more major areas of study in Writing Studies and/or Rhetoric and Composition;
- Experience with and support of teaching that prioritizes student well-being and the success ofstudents (including individuals from historically marginalized and colonized populations);
- Experience with and/or demonstrated interest in the use of digital and multimodal pedagogies (including AI tools) in relation to writing and composition
- Demonstrated interest in and evidence of engagement with research in areas related to Writing Studies, Rhetoric, Composition, and/or Scholarship of Teaching and Learning;
- Demonstrated abilityto work both collaboratively and independently within a complex program;
- Demonstrated evidence of service, particularly in the form of curriculum development and instructor training.

DESIRABLE CRITERIA

- Experience as a Writing Program Administrator (WPA)



or administering/coordinating required writing courses both for multisection WAC (Writing Across the Curriculum) and WID (Writing in the Discipline) courses;
- A scholarly focus on writing program administration, programmatic assessment, curricular design, writing pedagogy, or related area.
