What You Will Do Produce, check and approve various parts of technical documentation: design drawings, systems operation descriptions, estimates, material lists, specifications, standards, policies, work methods, test procedures, schedules and designs for planned and emergency work Co‑ordinate engineering services with departmental construction crews, outside contractors and other TTC departments Inspect, assess, and prepare engineered details for the implementation of new, and modification and rehabilitation of existing systems and facilities to ensure acceptable standards of performance and reliability Conduct comprehensive testing programs, diagnose complex engineering problems; prepare reports and recommendations related to engineering work requirements, priorities, budgets and schedules Provide direction and co‑ordination to TTC staff, consultants and contractors engaged in engineering work Take professional responsibilities for design work as required by the Skilled Engineers of Ontario (PEO) May be required to work outside of the standard work week to respond to trouble calls and other requirements of business As a TTC employee, you will be responsible for promoting a respectful work and service environment that supports diversity, inclusion, and is free from harassment and discrimination. What Skills Do You Bring? Plan and organize activities / projects to meet section and organizational goals Use office technology, software and applications Identify and minimize risk of Health and Safety issues Apply analytical skills Demonstrate specialized expertise and knowledge in the assigned field Communicate in a variety of mediums What Qualifications Do You Bring? Your educational background will consist of the completion of a university degree in a related discipline (i.E. Electrical/Electronic Engineering) or combination of education, training and experience deemed to be equivalent Registration with the Professional Engineers of Ontario (PEO) is mandatory Sound knowledge of electrical engineering principles, traction power substations, operating work methods and practices plus a strong knowledge of project management concepts and practices, and have the ability to carry out and/or co‑ordinate projects and activities associated with the electrical and traction power systems Strong working knowledge of the DC traction power substations, industrial electrical installations, automation and protection, DC and AC power distribution, transformers, switchgear, power electronics and associated equipment maintained and rehabilitated by the SEC Department Sound judgement plus excellent technical, analytical, problem solving, interpersonal, verbal communication and report writing skills, and have experience in dealing with the local electric utility and the City of Toronto Strong knowledge of the Electrical Safety Code, NFPA codes, the Canadian Electrical Code and the electrical and traction power systems related to transit systems, energy billing and power monitoring systems and the associated electrical/electronic equipment Computer literate with a good working knowledge of personal computers and computerized applications related to the work, particularly various electronic test equipment Ability to plan, co‑ordinate and direct activities of personnel assisting in electrical design work Ability to provide direction to consultants and contractors engaged in associated activities What We Offer Commitment to creating a diverse, equitable and inclusive culture that promotes a sense of belonging and represents and reflects the needs of the communities we serve.
