Senior Geotechnical Engineer

Location: Canada (any AECOM Canadian office).

Job Description: Lead tailings dam design and serve as Engineer of Record for tailings management projects across Canada and elsewhere.

Responsibilities

- Lead the technical delivery of conceptual through detailed designs of mine waste management facilities (e.g., tailings dams, filtered stacks, co-disposal facilities, waste dumps) and water management facilities (e.g., mine water retention dams, seepage collection ponds).
- Serve as Engineer of Record (EOR) on tailings dams or similar embankment systems.
- Provide technical direction and mentorship to team members.
- Perform independent technical reviews of engineering reports and designs.
- Advise clients on engineering matters, including compliance with applicable regulations and standards.
- Participate actively in AECOM’s Technical Practice Group.
- Partner with clients to develop long-term, sustainable solutions.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements

- Bachelor’s degree in a relevant engineering discipline.
- 8+ years of progressive experience in the tailings and mine waste sector.
- Experience serving as Engineer of Record for large tailings facilities.

Preferred Qualifications

- Master’s degree in a relevant engineering discipline.




- 20+ years of progressive experience in tailings management, preferably within Canada.
- Highly collaborative, with the ability to build strong working relationships across AECOM and with global project teams.
- Proven experience leading and building multidisciplinary teams.
- Bilingualism in French and English.
- Valid driver’s license.

Additional Information

Sponsorship for Canadian employment authorization is not available for this position.

All newly hired employees are required to attend an in-person Day 1 onboarding at an AECOM office location as a condition of employment.

Compensation Range: CAD 120,000 – CAD 200,000 per year.
