The Kativik Regional Government is a non-ethnic public organization established in 1978 under
the James Bay and Northern Quebec Agreement. The organization has jurisdiction over most of
Quebec’s territory north of the 55th parallel. The Nunavik Police Service (SPN) is the regional
police service for Nunavik. The SPN is seeking a motivated and dynamic individual to fill the
following position:

SERGEANT-INVESTIGATOR

Position summary:
Reporting to the Lieutenant-Investigator, the incumbent conducts criminal and penal
investigations throughout Nunavik. The position requires strong professional rigour, sound
investigative judgment, and close collaboration with the Director of Criminal and Penal
Prosecutions (DCPP) and partners. The Sergeant-Investigator provides guidance to patrol
officers during investigations and serves as a mentor to them.
Main duties:

- Plan, lead and conduct criminal and penal investigations in accordance with legal

requirements, applicable standards and NPS directives;
- Prepare investigation plans, analyze evidence collected and reconstruct the sequence of

events;
- Conduct interviews and interrogations in accordance with applicable case law, training

standards and best investigative practices;
- Recruit, manage and maintain relationships with sources and informants, in accordance

with NPS directives;
- Collaborate with DCPP prosecutors in the preparation and presentation of evidence,

testify in court and support judicial proceedings;
- Provide guidance to police patrol officers when they participate in investigations;
- Maintain regular communication with the Lieutenant and Captain of Investigations, as well

as with persons involved in cases;
- Contribute to the collection and analysis of criminal intelligence, particularly with respect

to crime prevention, drug trafficking and alcohol smuggling;
- Establish and maintain working relationships with the population, socio-economic and

community partners,



as well as government organizations;
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of the case law and legal documentation relevant to

investigations;
- Maintain a comprehensive understanding of the issues related to the main criminal

activities occurring in the territory;
- Travel frequently to the northern villages, as required by operational needs;
- Perform any other related duties as requested by the supervisor.

conflict management practices, applicable legislation, and NPS policies,
procedures and strategies;

- Strong adaptability, particularly in a northern and multicultural context;
- Reliability, availability, autonomy, initiative and sense of priorities.

Requirements
- Meet the minimum requirements set forth in the Police Act to be hired as a police officer

in Quebec;
- Have successfully completed the basic training program in police investigation offered by

the École nationale de police du Québec;
- Demonstrate professional conduct compatible with the investigative responsibilities

attached to the position, particularly with regard to the investigator’s discretionary power,
the credibility required to testify, compliance with the Code of ethics of Québec police
officers, and integrity.

- Fluency (verbal and written) in English is essential; knowledge of Inuktitut and French will

be considered an asset.
- Experience in a multicultural environment will be considered an asset.

Salary scale: 145 150,00 $ per year.

- Isolation and Special Working Conditions allowance: up to $25,924.80 per year;
- Travel time allowance to compensate for travel time between the southern part of the

province and Nunavik;
